What is the maximum size curtain rod that will fit through the top?

The opening is about 1 1/4 long. The curtain Rod I have is about 3/4 long & 1/2 inch wide and rectangular (not round) and is perfect because it needs to be loose enough to slide through easily- the fabric does not stretch.

Is the rod like any other tension rods? If this be the case- Why pay this much for the other?

This does not come with a curtain rod. It works with any regular tension rod.
