Not an 'Everyday Shoe.'
After being interested in these for several years, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a pair. Here are my thoughts. I wear a 10.5, so I took the advice and got a half-size smaller. Length matched, but the width was a bit narrow. Not enough to send back and they stretch out fairly soon. This is a good thing because with only 2 eyelets a side, a snug fit is probably not possible. Again, this is a good thing because the heritage of this shoe is casual wear, not strenuous work. They are not 'cushiony' and I feel a little bit of the seam between the heel and front-foot on the right side when I first start walking in them, even after breaking them in. I also notice the cup of the heel on both shoes for the first few minutes of walking. Both soon go away. I saw several mentions of water leaving stains when they get wet. I noted this and, even though I had no intention of wearing these in the rain, I've avoided water whenever possible. I did however get a couple of drops on them and, sure enough, you can see them a few weeks later. Don't wear them when the weather threatens rain. I got these to get a less boyish look when I wear shorts in warm/hot weather when I'm out running light errands. I'm pleased with the results. These are quality shoes that I will be able to wear for years. The expense suggest an everyday wear shoe, and I get that, but these are not that type of shoe. But under the right conditions, you can, and will, get a lot of wear out of them.

5 STAR SHOES (IF YOU CAN HANDLE A LITTLE EXTRA INITIAL WORK)
here's the thing, these are my absolute favorite shoes. but the sizing isn't always consistent. I ordered the exact same pair, same size and color, and it was smaller than usual. I suggest trying them on in a store. the other thing is, get these originals with the gum rubber sole. they are TEN TIMES better than the cheaper version they call "bushacre" you might see at a discount price. trust me. they last longer and are much more comfortable. worth the extra cost. the soles are pretty flat. my feet need good arch support. i bought some ten dollar dr school's arch support cushions and BOOM--they feel perfect. I have to get half a size larger to make sure they fit with the arch supports. my final note is that the 4 lace holes aren't enough for me. i like to be able to lace a little higher so my foot doesn't slide around too much inside the shoe. you can go to a shoe repair cobbler place and they can do that--grommets and all--for not very much money. i know these are a lot of caveats for a shoe i rated 5 star but hear me out: after all these conditions were met, these have become my absolute FAVORITE shoes. i wear them almost every day. they match with 90% of my outfits. they look great, feel great, and like a good pair of jeans, they get better with age. as long as they keep making them in this style and color and I can find the size that fits right, i will probably keep buying them whenever i need to, forever.

Buy 1.5 sizes small -- this is a great boot.
This is an outstanding boot. Looks incredibly good (better than I even thought, even with my high hopes going in) and also feels comfortable. I have read a number of reviews complain about the comfort, but that might because they are buying the wrong size, which brings me to my next point -- IMPORTANT -- these things run LARGE! If you're gonna get them, pick up a pair that is 1.5 sizes smaller than what you would normally wear. I usually wear 11.5-12, and the 10's fit my foot perfectly. Kind of annoying to deal with Clarks sizes, but damn they feel good now that I got the right pair, and the style of these boots more than makes up for this minor annoyance. No comment on the longevity yet, but they feel sturdy and well-built. Of course, standard tips for suede shoes apply (don't walk through the snow with these boots). In terms of style, the grey distressed color goes well with my blue jeans, black/grey jeans, and all black pants. I think they look best with skinny pants, but you can wear them with just about anything. A casual t-shirt, oxford, dress shirt (tucked in or out), and what I think is the best - a slightly baggy/oversized sweatshirt...looks freaking amazing. I don't ever rate clothes online (this is my first review) but I highly recommend these shoes.

A Must Have Boot for Anyone! Essential IMO
Clark’s Desert Boot is a “must have” boot & all should own at least 1 pair, in my opinion. They never go out of style & are versatile enough to be worn for many occasions. I have been wearing another pair, in the taupe brushed/distressed suede, for 7 years & they are still a good boot I will continue to wear. Despite what some may assume or say, the crepe sole last a long time & are more durable than you would expect. They are extremely comfortable, especially after you break in. I’ve wanted the Beeswax Desert Boot for a while ,so finally ordered & received them. The shipping was slow , even for free shipping, but well worth the wait. They have a very nice & unique finish, quality leather & have a somewhat worn or distressed look after wearing them just the first time. You have to expect that look with the type of leather the beeswax Desert Boot has & is part of the appeal of them. These seem to require a little more time to break in compared to the suede, but expected w/ a firmer leather. The light crepe sole will get dirty immediately but it doesn’t look bad or noticeable to anyone. I did have a little concern bc every pair I’ve owned had “Clark’s Originals Desert Boot” printed on the insole. These just have “Clark’s “ in plain black lettering. A few other buyers confirmed that theirs had the same “Clark’s” lettering so that put me at ease. They are authentic so no concerns there. As others say, order 1/2 to a full size smaller than you wear in other shoes. I normally wear an 11.5 & have to go with 10.5 with Clark’s. I love the beeswax finish & will enjoy them for years to come. I didn’t give 5 stars bc the seller did not address my concern & if I could just rate them, I would give less stars but I don’t want their lack of customer service to reflect on Clark’s or the Desert Boot. If you don’t own a pair of any color of Clark’s Desert Boots... order some now!

Stylin' casual boots!
Most reviews on here cover all the fine aspects of these boots. I ordered my first pair about a month ago and am in love with them! I always find ways to put them to use, even in the blazing summer heat. I'll just chime in with some useful suggestions to get the most out of these shoes: -first off, order either 1 full or a half size down. I normally go between 9-10 depending on shoe brand and an 8.5 in the desert boots fits me perfectly: snug enough around the arches and loose enough up in the toe box. I bought the 8.5 and 9 and just returned the 9's -second, the leather is pretty thick and therefore stiff at first. This can be uncomfortable before the ankles wear in, so get some mink oil and work that in to soften up the leather a bit (make sure to get all leather portions, including welt seams). you'll also have the added benefit of conditioning the leather and giving it some water resistance -third, the more you wear these boots the better they get! The leather gets very soft and supple to the point where the high tops feel like a caress on your ankles. the upper above your toes/arch will get these cool ripples in them and the shoe becomes flexible. the leather will wear in different areas and add more contrast and depth to the coloration, making the shoes more interesting to look at. Like all great clothing items, these boots will only get better with age. I see these lasting me for years if I use them like I would most shoes... but then again I'm obsessed and might ignore all my other choices and wear these into the ground in a year.

A very stylish and well-built shoe that is so UNCOMFORTABLE that I had to give it a 1 star :(
I really, really wanted to like these shoes. I liked the look and the style. They appear to be well made. Fit I ordered them 1 size smaller (12) instead of the 13 that I normally wear based on the recommendation of other reviewers. Toe length fit well, but the width just after the laces and height of the toe box is entirely too small. So much that it pinches the tops of my feet and toes. For the record, I have long, but slender feet. Comfort I wore these shoes for an hour the first time and noticed a lot of heel rub not just on the back, but also on the sides of the heel as well. The front of the shoe is fitted and captivates the foot, but the rear of the shoe tends to slide and creating friction. With 2 pairs of sock, I managed to wear them for a work day and then walking around a bit after work. However, they were not comfortable. The shoe has no comfort lining at all so the leather rubs the ankle and the portions of the foot. The leather inside is rough and rubs against the foot. Since it doesn't have a cushioning liner, they feet like you are walking on wood as opposed to a comfortable surface. I put gel foot inserts, but could not wear them comfortably because the toe box is so small that it squeezed my toes against the top of the shoe. I am not sure how this shoe received so many positive reviews. They look good, but are horribly uncomfortable. I had intended to use them as my every day wear, but am not sure if I can even do that. I would return them, but I treated them with leather conditioner before I wore them. My advice is to buy the same style shoe in the UGG brand. I looked at them in the shoe store. They are twice as expensive, but it seems like they have fixed everything that I don't like about these.
