Sturdy. Great grind.
Based on reviews here and on other sites, the Peugeot pepper grinders have a good reputation. They may seem more expensive, but as someone who has purchased multiple other (less expensive) grinders, price may indicate quality for the Peugeot. I have used this grinder for a couple of months now. I wanted to try it out prior to purchasing another for a family member over the holidays. I really do like it. The grinding mechanism is sturdy and most whole pepper corns feed well into the grinder -- especially black pepper -- producing uniform grains that can be large and "cracked" all the way down to powder. Pink peppercorns, which apparently are in a whole different family than "real peppercorns" are much softer and moister than regular black peppercorns and required a lot more shaking to let the grinder work properly. Mixtures of black peppercorns and pink pepper work OK if there is more than 75% black in the grinder.I love this grinder, and did buy another that works just as well! Recommended!

Settle for nothing less
These are the industry standard, and I have yet to find anything that works as well, as reliably, for as long. My mother has been using her set since before I was born. This was for my sister-in-law, who is absolutely over the moon.

Re-discovering pepper all over again.
This grinder has allowed me to re-discover pepper all over again. I used to grind my pepper in one of the disposable types that some spice companies package their pepper in now. That can be tasty, but I now realize that the flavor is not nearly as potent unless you begin to use a nicer grinder such as this Peugeot model. I had a direct comparison because I moved peppercorns from my disposable grinder to this one and there was still a noticeable difference in flavor. The pepper is spicier and like magic. You can easily change the coarseness of the grind. Refilling is a breeze. It feels nice in the hand during use. Looks great on the counter. I'm interested to see if the salt version is worth the money! I might even buy one or two more of these pepper grinders so that I can have one for my white and pink peppercorn grinding too!!

Excellent grinder, just a wee bit small
Very consistent, especially good for finer grinds - fine but not dusty. Does ok at larger grind sizes but they all do and this prob does better than most. Easy to use, as easy as all of this type are to fill, a quality item that was a significant upgrade. It's just that it's not quite as big as I'd like - which of course is partly my fault, not like they misled or anything. I didn't want a really tall one but if this were 10-12 oz, it would be perfect. But still, a high quality and recommended grinder.

One pepper grinder to rule them all!
Hands down, the best pepper grinder we’ve ever had. Your search is over folks, from the metal gears to the smooth turns, this grinder is all you need. Also makes a great gift to anybody. After all, I guarantee they don’t have a grinder as nice as this.

Not reliable grind size
Grinding is easy but the screw that adjusts grind size at the top constantly slips, it doesn't stay at the adjusted size over time. I wouldn't recommend this one, especially at this premium price. I have a magnum pepper mill and it's way superior, should have bought the same magnum one.

Great classic pepper mill. For those who want a simpler, time-proven design
When I first started using this pepper mill, I didn't think it was particularly special. However, I've since had a chance to compare with other popular (and well reviewed) units such as the Cole & Mason, and came to the conclusion that Peugeot's design has lasted the test of time for good reason (don't get me wrong, the C&M is a fine unit, too). The mill is solid in the hand, and just has a lovely, classic overall feel. The only downside, if I'm being nit picky, is that loosening the top screw (to make course grinds) makes the top cap jostle, thus giving the overall unit a somewhat clumsy experience. Would definitely buy again

I hate this pepper grinder!
I had one of those cheezy clear plastic pepper grinders before this one... and have had several of the supermarket pepper grinders also.... that being said I was looking for a quality pepper mill and after seeing this one and the overall good reviews I picked one up.... all I can say is what an absolute piece of junk! I've owned it for just over a year and it has been a year of constant frustration. You have to continually adjust the knob for grind size and no matter what it will fluctuate between the coarsest pepper you've ever seen and then the most fine pepper dust. It rejects half of the peppercorns from even entering the Grinding parts. I legitimately hate this thing!
