Q: Is this product smooth or has it got beads in it

Yes it does have a granular feel to it, I think it's because of the honey has got to a low temperature. The honey in my kitchen cupboard has done the same thing. If its kept at room temperatue it will be fine. I have some in my locker at work which is quite warm, and it is fine. The granular consistency is is good for exfoliating around your lips. I use it every day, and my lips are lovely and smooth.

Q: Can this balm be used on the face as well as the lips?

I would NOT recommend this. The lip balm is of high fat concentration and would not absorb easily into normal skin.
