No. I’d call it water resistant. It’s closed with a zipper so it’s definitely not waterproof. Will it protect the speaker in light rain? Yeah I’d say so. Will it protect the speaker in a downpour? Maybe. It depends on your tolerance for some risk. If you want WATERPROOF as in guaranteed look into the SKB i3 series of cases. These are military grade submersible-I’ve tested two of them with a garden hose and the inside DEFINITELY stays dry. Or maybe a white water rafting dry bag ... much less expensive and something to put around the outside of the backpack during heavy summer storms if you’re stuck in the open at a gig. Having said all this - if you want a case to protect the speakers for a gig these bags are first class. Incredible well made. I’ve used mine on probably thirty gigs now and they are great. Of course the price reflects this, but I’d definitely get them again.

The backpack is slightly padded. It's not meant to protect the unit 100%. It will prevent scratches here and there.
