Pretty good for anyone aiming to get an A* in chemistry.
THIS REVIEW IS WRITTEN BY A CANDIDATE WHO GOT an A* in IGCSE chemistry 0620 using this book as his main source of info. I won't go into the technical stuff such as the quality at which i received the book and time of shipment because i know your not looking for this type of review :D At first the book can look intimidating, however with repetitive reading the chapters become more and more organized. The book doesn't follow the order of the chapters in the syllabus which was nuisance at start but eventually everything sinks in. The presence of chapter 12 was unique and very useful for paper 6 revision. But reading the chapters will get you nowhere. So highlighting the important info and also having a notebook will complete the package. The past paper questions present in the book are outdated so downloading past papers and solving a lot of them is crucial to achieve an A*. Suggestion for improvements regarding the layout of the book: 1.Don't combine multiple chapters of the syllabus into one large chunky chapter, this makes the book easier to use and info more simple to absorb. 2.Update the end of chapter questions 3.Remove the "additional information bar" as it really reduces the focus of a certain paragraph sometimes and makes it more difficult to understand the chapter as a whole. This can become a nuisance for students who don't really depend on using the syllabus for studying and revision. To conclude: The book is pretty good once you get used to its format and style (this time period can vary from candidate to candidate). DISCLAIMER: I haven't used the CD really so i won't give my opinion on it Study smart and best of luck in your IGCSE chemistry exams !!!!

Enagaging, could be less test focused, some errors
So first the good news. This book is much easier to grasp onto than anything I ever saw back in school. Perhaps if I had used this text in high school, I would have only failed chemistry once, rather than multiple times. It goes at a good pace and builds on itself very nicely, using real world examples that you can wrap your head around and grasp why chemistry is such an important and ubiquitous science that's worth understanding. To me that makes it all the more puzzling that there are so many places in the book that basically put a damper on the reader's motivation explaining that one point or another doesn't really need to be understood for passing the exam. To my mind it makes no sense to tie such a down to earth and engaging text so closely to the importance of passing an exam, as if to say "don't worry about the fun and interesting things, just make sure you get enough points to pass your course and move on with your life." The other thing that I can't get my mind around is how it is possible for such an impressive and revered institution as Cambridge to misprint the periodic table in a Chemistry textbook. (Indium is where Iridium should be). Of all the things you would expect to be absolutely right in any chemistry textbook, the periodic table has to be pretty high on the priorities.

Excellent.... Updated, interesting, with the Cambridge hallmark of impeccable quality.... I wish others learnt to produce text books like this....

I’m loving this Chemistry book. It’s absolutely brilliant, has all the information necessary to pass an exam. Plus C.D. has all the answers; so homeschoolers won’t be left struggling to find answers to the practice questions. 13 yo already answering exam questions well just using this book.
