Maida Heatter's Book of Great Chocolate Desserts

A friend gave me a copy of this book 40 years ago. I've always loved it, but somehow lost track of my copy. When I heard that Maida had passed away, I knew I needed to replace my copy. She's an entertaining writer in addition to presenting some truly wonderful dessert recipes. Family favorites are the chocolate cheesecake (this was my now 30 year old son's first taste of chocolate at the age of 9 months, given to him by his aunt behind my back!) and the chocolate chip cookies.

Maida Heater was a talented pastry chef. This book is a state-of-the-art one on CHOCOLATE desserts. Her recipes are the best ever. She was so accurate; if you follow what she says, you get amazing deserts without much effort. No wonder; she won a prize as a best pastry chef in the US in her early life!

I love this cookbook and just replaced it as the (40 yo) original was falling apart. If you live chocolate, you must have this book. I have also gifted other copies to both of my children. No pretty pictures, but superior recipes!

I have relied on Maida Heatter's desserts cookbook forever and I have never been disappointed with any recipe I have made. She was a genious and I have loved her forever.

This is a wonderful book of recipes. Have made many of the recipes and highly recommend this book.Has great instructions.

I've come to this page because my copy of "Great Chocolate Desserts" is falling apart from so much use & I need to replace it. I use it so much because I trust it completely. Every cookbook should be written like this one. Before each recipe Heatter describes the end product. Her instructions are incredibly thorough & easy to follow. She even gives advice on which brands of chocolate work best. And the results are terrific. I've earned the reputation of being a superb dessert-maker only because I rely so heavily on this book!

I’ve baked many of Maida’s cake recipes through out the years and for the most part they’ve all been good. However I find her chocolate cakes are the opposite. They tasted very ordinary and at times not good at all. And as an experienced baker, Ive even tweaked some of them, using high quality chocolate/cocoa powder, but the results have been the same. There is nothing “great” about them. If you’re looking for some good cakes, buy Maida Heatter’s cake book. But for chocolate lovers, look elsewhere.
