JIM DUNLOP HE113P Flat Thumbpicks, Heavy, 3/Player's Pack

I love these thumb picks! I play dobro and banjo and have always used Dunlops. But they are fairly thick and can be uncomfortable after a few hours. These are thinner which makes them more comfortable and easier to feel the strings. And the broad pick holds to your thumb nicely. I have had a few fellow pickers try them and they are all happy with them

I started using these picks when I first started playing bass guitar over 10 years ago. I have been hooked on these ever since. The sound you can get out of a bass with these picks is amazing, very bright and crisp! The Medium thickness Herco picks are my favorite, but they ARE flexible enough that you lose a bit of volume when really trying to thrash some strings. The Extra Heavy picks are a bit uncomfortable over the top of the thumb, but are bearable. I've played many shows and recorded multiple times with the Medium, Heavy, and Extra Heavy Herco picks. I can't play a show without them anymore! I've tried other brands of thumb picks (Dunlop) but these are simply the best! These CAN and WILL break over time. I broke three Medium picks in one show, but I had been practicing and playing with them for three weeks. They're plenty durable, but will break eventually. BUY THESE PICKS, they're GREAT! PS- I've noticed people writing reviews on the other thicknesses of Herco picks saying that "They came stretched out, they don't stay on my thumb, etc." With hard enough playing NO pick will stay on your finger, and I always bend and flex the "thumb-ring" on these picks to fit my finger, if its too tight, I stretch it "flatter". If its too loose I "roll it under". I still pinch this thumb pick between my thumb and index finger because I play a very rapid downstrum-upstrum (8th notes) style bass (punk/rock/alternative) but the thumb-ring on these gives you the extra support you need for those really fast riffs.

These size small thumb picks are perfect fit for my thin six year old who is just starting to learn to play the guitar. He was dropping his pick a lot during class, so his instructor recommended we get a thumb pick. They seem to be ok quality after one use & he likes the vivid colors.

In theory, I really like these picks. In fact, when I got them I immediately ordered another set. They are some of the least expensive picks, give the ability to flat pick and thumb pick, and don't seem to have any rough edges on them (Like some other popular and pricier brands). My real complaint is that the thumb wrap is too malleable. As I played for around an hour, my thumb warmed up the wrap and it started to expand until it started rotating around my thumb. I was able to curl it back in, dip it in cold water to reset it, and continue playing...but I want to spend my time playing, not spending 15 minutes making my thumb pick fit every hour. I've attached a video; the yellow pick is the one I used for an hour. I showed a few angles and comparisons. You can visibly see that the thumb wrap of the yellow is larger. That is AFTER I remolded it to make it tighter. Some other reviewers said they like them because they have a tendency to drop picks. I think these picks would be ideal for preventing drops.

I've been using the medium for about 3 weeks. I decided to get the three pack of the heavy and this is a great pick for thumb picking. In the video you can see I'm thumb picking and strumming fairly heavy and the pick is not shifting out of place. It works well gripped for flat picking although the medium might work a little better for strumming. I'm an old flat picker trying to get into thumb picking. Thumb picks are a personal preference thing but for less than $5 for three I recommend trying these picks. Quality and durability seams to be very good.

Just guitar picks. They do what they do

Absolutely love these pics, I suffer from nerve damage and carpal tunnel so I often loose feeling in my hand and can't grip my pics enough to hold them in place or I drop them. This pics are a dream come true for me they stay in place and on my thumb, and honestly the feel and attack I can tell much difference in these and the name brand pics I use to use. I place bluegrass and southern gospel music and their working out very well for me, I'll be ordering more as soon as I finish this review. Hats off Herco

I started playing guitar about three years ago now. I was using a fairly standard .90 guitar plectrum, which did me well for my first two years. Unfortunately, the herniated disc in my neck has been aggravating the nerves in my right arm. This causes a lot of pain and swelling in my wrist and thumb. It basically killed any idea of alt picking with a plectrum. To compensate for this issue, I started finger picking more and went on the look for a good substitute. That's when I found these Dunlop heavy thumb picks. Before I found these, I tried a couple of different brands with very little success. I found the size a bit too inconsistent between brands and really hard to judge what would make for a good plectrum. These Dunlop Heavies however are near as perfect as I could have hoped for. The idea behind them is pretty straight forward. For those that don't know, it's a plectrum that hooks on to your thumb which means you don't need to grip a thing. Removing the ability to grip really relieves the pressure on your hand whilst freeing up your other fingers for picking. It also has the added bonus of giving the player a similar sound texture to that of a plectrum player instead of that blunt thud from your bare thumb. I found the plectrums to be comfortable. The thing sits perfectly and barely moves the whole time I'm playing. It works well for strumming, partially because of the angle and the extremely smooth surface. I haven't had any issues playing stuff like Status Quo, AC/DC and other rock tunes like Rush's Bastille Day with the thing. I wouldn't recommend these thumb picks for people who want to play metal. It's just not made for that sort of thing (can always prove me wrong!). I also find that I misjudge the distance between my thumb and the strings every now and again. It takes a second or two to get adjusted to it. It doesn't happen so much now after a couple of months worth of practice, so don't be put off if this is an issue. As a disabled person with lots of issues with my hands, I highly recommend these plectrums for people with similar issues. I would also recommend them for the average player who wants to play with both a pick and fingers or someone who simply drops their plectrums a lot. It works really well, is very sturdy and getting three in a pack is a nice bargain.

Je suis guitariste de jazz et je joue aussi du "folk baroque" (Jansch Renbourn ...). Comme j'ai commencé avec cette musique, je joue beaucoup aux doigts y compris pour le jazz qui est devenu ma musique principale, mais pour les passages véloces (je joue beaucoup de bebop / hard bop & jazz fusion donc des musiques axées sur un jeu rapide) il me faut une médiator, depuis plus de 40 ans j'utilisais les onglets Dunlop, les blancs dont j'étais très content mais avec l'âge ( et oui... je suis guitariste depuis 1976) j'ai commencé à avoir des problèes d'arthrose et d'articulation au pouce à cause notamment de la compression. j'ai essayé de jouer uniquement avec les doigts mais je perds de la vitesse et de la précision parfois. Je me suis rabattu sur ces onglets médiator qui, pour l'instant, sont la solution optimale à mon problème en jazz. Pour soulager mon pouce je ne joue plus qu'aux doigts, sans onglets, en guitare acoustique en revanche.

Have used these for several years will buy again

Nice, allows good range of motion. But not as good as a traditional thumb pick. Allows some casual strumming and picking too. Quality is good.
