Comfortable for long editing sessions
For years I used the Audio-Technica ATH-M20x headphones because a) they are cheap, b) they have a pretty flat response, and c) happened to be what my local music store had in stock. And with all that considered, they are not bad headphones. But then I started working from home... Suddenly, I was no longer wearing headphones for short moments when I needed to crank the sound up. With two toddlers living in the same house, I found I needed to wear them for hours at a time in order to focus. This resulted in much fatigue around my ears. They were being pressed against in head in ways that hurt when worn long periods. I also started to notice they would sit heavy on the top of my head and I would get sore where the head band was. "Oh well" I thought. "All the more reason for me to finish out my basement and move down there." But months passed, I needed a quicker solution. So I searched the interwebs. Enter the DT 770 Pro headphones by Beyerdynamic. These things are superb! Not only can I wear them for hours on end without pain, but they also work comfortably while wearing my blue light glasses. I purchased the 32 Ohm model and here are some things I noticed after using them for a week: - They are slightly quieter than the ATH-M20x and with less bass. However I have not found that to be an issue. It has actually allowed me to hear a fuller range and master audio better. - You will notice the difference if they are plugged into a subpar headphone amp. I use some fairly cheap monitors that have a headphone jack. After getting these I've stopped using that jack and have started plugging the headphones straight into the headphone jack for the computer. The quality jumps up when I do. - Sound insulation is good considering there is no active noise cancelling. People have to knock with confidence on my office door to get my attention. - The cord is shorter than my other headphones. Not an issue for me considering where my computer sits. However I can imagine that could be an issue if your computer is located on the floor. That could be solved with a headphone amp. All that said, I consider the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro headphones to be a worthwhile investment and would recommend them to anyone looking for comfortable headphones with quality sound at reasonably affordable price.

Beautiful, crisp, flat studio sound; very satisfied
The first headphones (or speakers) that I don't have to equalize (30 ohm)! I have pitch perfect hearing and live/die on music in my life. But never invested in good quality headphones before these (I generally like to feel my music though big speakers). For the price these seem like a terrific value to me... the sound is SO good. For listening to "Fine Music", I can't imagine anything better. The sound is crisp, full, rich, bass is very solid, and every little nuance of sound comes through (shocked to hear sounds on my vinyl that I've never heard before!). However, be aware these are STUDIO headphones; they are not designed to emphasize anything; they're flat spectrum. So, if you want that razor-ripping sound from a heavy metal guitar as I do sometimes, these don't do that without some unusual EQ tweaking. They don't distort... that's the great thing on most music, but that also means they don't sound like a rock concert or a Marshall amplifier in your living room. But, I have gotten closer to that with some 20 band EQ. Direct from my laptop they (30 ohm) are not loud enough for me, but might be sufficient for some people/purposes. Using my Harman Kardon amp they are louder than I can handle. I listen to all types of music and my favs like Enigma or Alan Parsons or Aretha (yea, old school, lol) is just dreamy with these headphones! Oh... and the earcups are so soft and totally seal out room noise; very comfortable for up to 2-3 hours continuously for me.

Makes my Sony MDR-V6's sound like a phonograph amplified with a few dirty solo cups
Headphones are a means to an end for me: I want to be immersed in whatever I'm listening to, whether that's Celibidache grinding his way through a cavernous rendition of Bruckner 8, or Paysage D'Hiver channeling the sublimity of an alpine blizzard into layers of synthesizers, strings, and guitar fuzz. The less I think about my headphones, the better. The DT770's are just about as close to perfection as I could ever hope to find in a <$200 headphone. I couldn't believe the difference in soundstage, clarity, and overall immersion when I upgraded from my Sony MDR-V6. The V6 is a great headphone in its own right, but the DT770 still manages to trump it in every conceivable metric. A few key points: -Excellent passive noise isolation. If you upgrade the pads, these are just about the best non-ANC headphone I've been able to find. I've been using Brainwavz XL pads, and I'm able to use these as my go-to headphone for managing sound sensitivity/auditory processing issues (I'm autistic--usually I'd need either ANC headphones or protective 3M-style earmuffs to manage environmental noises). -Extremely durable. The DT770's are workhorse headphones that can withstand a surprising amount of punishment. Everything here is either metal or tough ABS-type plastic. Only weak point would be the cable, which isn't detachable out of the box. I've managed to bend the output jack ever-so-slightly after catching the cable on a few doorknobs. Not enough to affect performance, but I bought a bunch of cheap extension cables from Monoprice in case it happens again. I've had these cans for two years now, do keep in mind. -Sound quality is lustrous and balanced, but not sterile. Really a matter of taste here, but an equalizer could easily attune these beasts to output whatever kind of sound profile you prefer. I don't EQ, and I find the DT770's perfect as-is for classical, ambient, neofolk, extreme metal, crust, EDM, and whatever else I decide to run through them. Soundstage is definitely a cut above competition--I've never heard a closed-back pair of headphones with such a spacious sound signature. I genuinely feel like I could use these headphones 24/7 for the rest of my life and be completely satisfied. I only wish someone recommended these to me sooner--and that Beyerdynamic would make a model with a detachable cable. You won't regret buying these if soundstage, isolation, and durability are what you're after.

First of all I want to mention that I have the 32 ohm version, in terms of sound it’s possible that you can fine some very tiny differences between the version. Anyway let’s start this review by mentioning the build quality whitch is excellent, the fact that this headphone are manufactured in Germany is a proof of quality and there is almost nothing to say, well build, everything can be remplace if needed except the cable (more on that later) and very confortable, I was wearing these for hours and hours never hade any issue. Overall in build quality and confort it’s a 10 out of 10. Now we will talk about the most important things for all the headphone : the SOUND QUALITY, overall excellent but we will dig a bit more on that. First this headphone are mainly made for a studio usage but I am using them for casual listening and video game. About sound quality we can write thousands and thousands words to describe the sound but I will try to make shorter. As I said before the sound quality is excellent we will start with the bass as expected when looking the frequency response graph the bass is here but as much as beats headphone, so those who want very bassy headphone, save you money. In the other hand the sub base is very deep but not « muddy » they are very well defined, the mid are here and clear as we can expect from a good pair of headphone. The treble, we need two mention that this headphone is made will boosted treble and can be difficult for people with very sensitive ears, I am very sensitive to high note at the beginning I was about to return them because of these high note, you can sometime ear sibilance (the ssss! Sound that you can ear on the s and t’s) the high are just piercing out of the box, but after about a week the sibilance is still there but not as painful as the beginning. These high note give a very clear and crispy sound when it come to voice or other high notes. Overall the sound quality is very good, the soundstage is awsome you can imagine all the instrument playing they own way and making an awesome results this is crazy. Final world for this headphone very good build quality, comfort, sound with only little defects the CABLE , for the price you would expect a detachable cable but sadly the cable not is removable make is the only part that can break and you can’t remplace also to mention that it is a bit short. Anyway you can go wrong buying these headphone !! Highly recommend

I got the 32ohm one. General uses and listen to music. I also have a few from Sennheiser and AKG. Although, 770 are long time studio standards and I also use those before but I never own one. Build: I feel confident with these. These will last long with proper care. Even if something damaged you can always replace the part. Comfort: These are very comfortable and does not get me sweating. I wear glasses so it does get a bit of annoying after an hour or so but that is a problem for every one who has to wear a pair glasses. Bass: Excellent. Deep sub bass. Even entire range is close to natural if not completely flat. Might a bit of lake around high bass but we can EQ that. But not necessary to EQ. Mid: Flat, clear and details. Voices are present and clear. Treble: Well, I did hear some sibilants. Sharp "S", "SH" sounds. Specially when you listen to Shreya Ghoshal :P this hurts my ears. That is usually because of a peak between 8khz and 10khz. We can EQ that easily. And also I think there is a bit of recess between 3khz and 5kzh. If you listen to electric guitar you will realize that. Sound-stage: Never expected to have such enjoyable sound stage. These are close back and considering that it does have a decent sound stage. You can easily shift your attention from one instrument to another. Nothing overlaps. Vocal is right at the center and rest of the instruments are surrounding you. Although not as wide as some open back headphones but this is great. Also if you wear glasses the sound will slightly change. So experience is best without glasses. Also close your eyes :P If you are not a professional then I believe DT 770 pro 32ohm are overall a full package. Good build, excellent sound, detailed and decent sound-stage. I do have a little bit of tuning with these. So below my chart: 30hz => Q1.4 , Low Shift, 2db gain 226hz => Q1.4, Bell, 3db gain 2.5khz => Q3, Bell, -2db gain 3.5khz => Q3.5, Bell, 3db gain [9khz => Q4.36, bell, -6db gain] OR [6kzh => High shift, -4db gain 9kz => Q4.36, bell, -3db gain]

The headphones sound amazing though I find it lacking some bass but still good enough. This is the higher impedance version though. My only complaint is it is not so good for big ears like mine. But since my son uses it, it is alright.
