I had heard Peak Design created some well loved/rated photography bags, mounts and straps, and I really liked the idea of mounting my camera to the shoulder strap on my backpack. So, I thought I’d try the Capture Camera Clip V3 Solo out. It’s a tight fit on my Lowepro backpack (wide straps), but it mounts securely and compresses the strap cushioning for a perfectly flush fit on the backside (shoulder facing side) of the strap. Even with a fully loaded pack, I can’t feel the back of the plate against my chest/shoulder. It’s very comfortable and I don’t even know it’s there, other than the weight of the camera. Clipping the camera in is dead simple...slide it in until it clicks. Removing it is just as easy. I had read a few complaints about difficulties pressing the safety release while removing the camera (some saying it requires two hand), but I had no such issue. I have big hands and as I grab the camera grip with my fingers, I can easily press the release with my thumb. It all happens in one smooth motion using only my right hand. For reference, I purchased Camera Clip V3 Solo (clip only version), along with the Peak Design Dual Plate V2. I have Manfrotto tripods and heads with RC2 mounts, so this Dual Plate works with both the Clip and my tripod heads. The Dual Plate works perfectly with the V3 clip and also well with the RC2 Manfrotto heads. Now for a quick testimonial... Yesterday I went for a hike/climb on some rocky terrain and had my Sony A7 with the 12-24mm lens (heavy) locked into the clip. I took a hard fall going over a boulder and was able to catch myself, somewhat, by my forearms and sort of tuck and roll. It was a violent impact (says my arms and shoulders), but the clip held fast and saved an expensive lens. I can only imagine what would have happen to either the camera or lens if I had used a neck or should strap instead of this. I’m sold on this clip mount, and highly recommend it...especially if you’re an active outdoors hiker/photographer.

I own many other Peak Design products, but this was my first Capture Clip, and I will say that this one is great. It pairs extremely well with the new dual plate (I bought one on Amazon, but it looks like they have removed it, you will need to get it from somewhere else). Pros: - While I haven't owned the older versions, it definitely looks smaller and a lot more slick, definitely the best looking of the versions. - Built out of metal, and feels very sturdy - With the dual plate, very easy to get in and out and holds very secure (no wiggle room). I used it on my backpack strap with a Sony A7RIII and the heavy 24-70mm GM and actually went ahead and jumped up and down with this. While the lens beat me in the chest, the clip held up and I would say that even with it unlocked, it probably wouldn't be able to fall out since this new design can only slide in from the top. Cons: - I would maybe recommend a little bit of oil or grease on the screws since there seems to be a lot of metal rubbing (screeching) when you are tightening it down. - Again, I can't confirm, but it seems like using one hand to get the camera in and out is not so easy. I think it has something to do with the angle of the release button. In the picture, you can see both v2 and v3 side by side. Notice that v2's button is slightly angled upward, which probably makes it less awkward to press, since it's not behind the camera body. However, Peak Design has said that the design of v3 does also prevent accidental button presses, which may be reason for the change. Conclusion: There really isn't anything else like this out there, and I can already tell you that I liked this so much that I went out and bought another one for my second camera bag. I didn't like the limitations that the old plate design put on my camera, but with the new dual plate, this was a no brainer. I highly recommend the dual plate with this, you will be able to use one plate with both ARCA and Manfrotto systems, and still use Capture!

When I saw someone on a trail using one of these I was so intrigued that I came home and bought one for myself. I never knew such a little (alas expensive) clip could be so useful! I have it attached to the shoulder strap of a backpack and use it mostly when hiking. I love that I don’t have to keep taking out and putting away my camera if I think there’s a chance that I’ll encounter something I might want to take pictures of. Obviously attaching a dslr + lens tends to weigh down the shoulder strap it’s attached to a bit, but as long as I fasten the chest-strap on my backpack when using this, it’s not a problem. Pros: super handy and unobtrusive; installs easily and securely on nearly any strap as long as it’s ~2” wide or less; bulletproof metal construction (this thing is solidly built); the attachment that comes with it attaches securely to your camera and is very low profile so you can put it on and forget about it (also compatible with plate that is tripod compatible - double win!); release button is lockable if you’re afraid of accidentally releasing it Cons: cost; tripod compatible mounting plate is sold separately; not ultra lightweight In summary, you get what you pay for and it looks like this thing will last!

I wish that I had bought this before my trip to Alaska, where holding my camera was a frequent frustration. I gave up on the old strap approach after decades without a clear path to replace it besides the PD worst strap. I couldn’t wrap my head around $80 for a mere clip. But along the way I saw other photographers effortlessly hiking with this and I come to my senses after it was too late to get one delivered mid-journey. Took my first hike with it finally this weekend. It’s great but three minor things: 1) You need to really think about the positioning. On your non-dominant shoulder is a good idea, but you may need to put it lower on the strap than you intuitively expect. 2) The tightness is also counterintuitive. I thought it wouldn’t be wide enough, or tight enough, alternately, to handle the strap on my hiking bag. But it was. There’s around 8mm of room, and the screws can go as tight as they need to from there. It’ll work with most backpacks but you may need to fiddle. 3) It only works with the PD plate, not other arca plates. This may or may not seem obvious to you but based on the description I was hopeful it would take the tripod plate on my Tamron 150-500. It did not. I wouldn’t feel safe hanging that lens off this attached to my camera, so I would say if you want to use it with a giant lens like that, invest in a second PD plate for the lens. All that said this is one of those products that Just Makes Sense (TM) once you give it a chance. The price sucks but it’s one of those things that simply doesn’t exist anywhere else. This is something stupid obvious that should have been around before I was born. I needed this in the film era. But I’m glad to have it now even if it costs as much as a full day of film for a home did back in the day. If you’re having trouble with $80, just remember that this hobby used to cost a dollar a shot even for the tossers. So take 80 good pictures on one hike - that’s seven seconds of CH on a Sony - and this thing is paid for.

I got this item after a lot of dithering about whether I really needed it or if there were other items out there, but I finally got it and couldn't be more pleased with the results. I wanted something that would allow me to carry my camera in an easy to access manner with my hands free while carrying a heavy pack (my load is currently a 2 year old, but I hope to get back to actual back packing). With this order I purchased the Clutch CL-3 (which included the baseplate) and the Pro Pad V2. As this sits close to your body, having a thicker handle strap was out of the question, but the Clutch was also excellent. My camera is a Canon 7D with a 24-105mm lens. So a decent sized setup. Security - The camera clipped into the clip securely and will not come out unless you press the release trigger. You can lock the release trigger as well, but I never felt the need. Yet it was easy to remove the camera and begin taking pictures with it. Once attached, the camera didn't wobble at all with my movements. Comfort - With the addition of the ProPad V2, I didn't have any discomfort at all while carrying the camera on my shoulder strap. I felt a little lopsided, but that's really to be expected. Best of all, both of my arms could swing freely enough to use hiking poles in both hands. I had a hydration tube on the side opposite my camera. Ease of installation - It was very simple to install. I used the thumb screws to test placement on the strap but used the included longer hex head bolts for a secure and easy fit. The shoulder straps are quite thick on the back and while not absolutely necessary, I wanted the extra security for it. Probably 5-10 minutes max, but most of that was hemming and hawing about how high it should go on the strap. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes to hike with their camera. In the past I've used a neck strap but that almost inevitably begins to get tiresome as you have to also hold the camera from swinging around with one hand. I'm extremely pleased with this product and will be showing it to another friend of mine soon as she is another avid photographer / hiker.

While I also highly recommend the Peak Design camera straps, I often find myself wearing a backpack while I’m out shooting pics. For me, navigating a camera strap while wearing a backpack isn’t all that convenient. That’s where the PD Capture Camera Clip comes in. It fits perfectly on my camera bag shoulder strap and leaves the camera ready at a moment’s notice if I see something worth shooting. Getting the camera off the clip literally takes less than a second. Given the convenience, one might think that the camera wouldn’t be very secure. That’s not at all the case. As seen in the video on the PD website, one could literally jump up and down with the camera properly mounted in the clip and it’s not going anywhere. You can also quite easily lock the release button to further ensure accidental release doesn’t occur. The one thing I would change about the clip is the width of the strap mount area. MANY of today’s better backpacks have a well-padded shoulder strap that is wider that 2.5” in the area you would most like to mount the clip (just above the sternum strap). This clip could take straps slightly wider than 2.5”, but generally not much wider, and only if they are not that well padded. Lucky for me, my favorite bag is exactly 2.5”. I would highly recommend this clip to anyone looking for a convenient, secure, hands-free way to carry their camera and have it available at a moment’s notice. Just make sure to measure your favorite backpack for fit before you do. If you’re looking for a camera backpack that fits it well, I highly recommend the Manfrotto MB MA-BP-A2.

I’ve been using this camera clip for about five years, and it’s easily one of my most used pieces of gear when hiking or traveling. The build quality is top-notch and has held up through every kind of condition. It keeps my camera secure and easily accessible, which makes grabbing shots on the trail so much faster. I purchased this clip to hold my Sony A7R4 with a zoom lens while hiking. I had no difficulty figuring out how the clip attached to my pack strap, nor with the plate connection to the camera. Two easily turned screws provide a tight grip on the strap. Initially, I positioned the clip in the opposite direction that I wanted, which was to have the camera rest against a firm stop of the camera plate to the clip. I thought maybe my strap was a bit too large to accommodate this clip but found the screws and internal clearance provided both easy attachment and security of "no movement" once the screws were tightened down. During a hike, I had no slippage, nor did I feel insecure about the camera connected to my shoulder strap. I liked the positive turn and lock mechanism on the clip which keeps the camera secure while walking. At the same time, in the position I had the clip, I did not notice any tendency to accidentally bump that locking button, and even when the lock was not engaged, the camera felt secured (this obviously varies with positioning and what activity you may be doing). With gloves on, I did find moving that lock out of position was probably a bit more difficult but not unduly. Unlocked the camera comes easily undone from the clip with an upward pull, and as easily replaced back in the clip. I like this Peak Design Capture Camera Clip V3 for hiking with my camera. The clip attached securely and the most importantly the camera feels secure in the clip. I expect this to hold up well into the future.

Came nicely packaged, brand new. I use this on my hiking trips and honestly, its so sturdy, I never have to worry about my camera falling off. Just remember to tighten the screws (for both the hand-twist on screws and using the key to tighten it on to your strap). If you want hands-free quick access to your gear, look no further. Only complaint, (this has NOTHING to do with the design of the clip) but just so you know ... issue is that if you have filters (ND filter with CPL) on your camera, it might rub against your clothes as the camera is on the clip. My ND filter eventually gotten loose over a period of time, rolled down the hill, landed on a certain angle and cracked the first layer of the filter! I was so sad, almost in tears. Just something to note if you're having filters on while wearing the peak design clip. Otherwise, a great buy!

It is quite a handy accessory to have. It works as advertised and holds the camera tightly. All is good, except one day while I was walking around town, the clip just came off camera. It was unbelievable, coz not just the clip came off bag, rather the screw was completely out. I had tightened the clip as much as physically possible, but it just came lose. Since then I have noticed that it keeps on getting lose with time, and I'm always cautious about my camera. I installed it again on my Lowepro350 shoulder strap, however have to tighten it regularly.
