Heir of Fire
Heir of Fire is the third book in the Throne of Glass series, and for me it marks a real turning point. The world expands dramatically as we're introduced to the four witch clans—the Crochans, Yellowlegs, Blackbeaks and Bluebloods. I was particularly drawn to Manon and the Thirteen. The Blackbeaks' creed, "Obedience. Discipline. Brutality." tells you everything you need to know about the harsh world they have been raised in.What stood out most to me, though, was how Sarah J. Maas portrays grief and depression through Celaena. Rather than being resolved in a chapter or two, her pain lingers throughout the story. She drifts through her days fighting, drinking, isolating herself and believing she's not good enough. It felt like an honest depiction of someone who is broken and struggling to find a reason to keep going, making her journey all the more powerful.I also couldn't help noticing that Terrasen's royal colours are green and silver—the same colours as Slytherin in Harry Potter—and I smiled at the line, "Don't give me a lesson like you're some mystical-nonsense master!", which felt like a fun nod to Yoda. This book has everything I've come to expect from the series: magic, danger, secrets, memorable new characters and plenty of emotional moments. By the end, I was completely invested in the story and couldn't wait to pick up the next book. Another easy 5⭐ read for me.

Not my favourite, but still brilliant!
I really enjoy SJM books, and as a general rule I’m hooked from start to end, and this isn’t so much an exception to that as just... it never seems to grip me as much as some of her others. It’s still a damn good story, but for some reason I just don’t adore it as much as the others. It’s a necessary book, and it does improve the image of the world she had built, it widens it and deepens the characters personalities, I really do enjoy it.I enjoy the story, and the changes to the situation. I like the relationships we see building and the new characters that are introduced, even when I don’t particularly like them. (You know, when you enjoy reading about characters even when you kinda want to punch them in the face? That type of scenario...)There is a lot to be said for the story and the changes that come as a result of this one, but at the same time I still kind of feel like it’s a filler book. It’s the one that Maas needed to write to get it away from the original assassin/cinderella type tale, and weave it into a thicker, more complex story. That being said, I LOVE where this story takes us to! And when I first read it I was curious what was going to come next, with any SJM book there are twists, turns and surprises throughout, and that ending leaves you reading to dive into the next book.If you haven’t read them before, all I can say is STICK WITH IT because by the end of the book you’ll be excited to delve into her world even deeper.I do love how SJM doesn’t have Celaena instantly recover from her grief, instead she works through it. She’s quite frankly a knob at times because of it, but I like that. I like that it takes her time to come to terms with it, and she reverts at times and struggles to cope in many ways. She isn’t a typical “my friend died. I cried and now I’m over it” Character we see so often. We learn more about where our Assassin is from, and she learns more about herself and her limits, she begins to become that an even more badass Character than we originally adored her for being. Take all that sass and attitude, and throw in the magic, and OMG I want to be her! But ya know... only the fun bits. 😂Manon. Just OMG I LOVE HER. I love that entire element to this world, it gives it a whole new twist! The first time I read about them I have to say I wasn’t sure what I thought, but now knowing what is coming... it’s bittersweet. Knowing what’s coming I just want to give Manon the biggest hug! The first time I read this though, I had reservations. I remember reading them bits and feeling a bit like SJM was trying desperately to merge two totally different stories.Dorian continues to be a sweetheart, and between him and Rowan... omg the feels in this book 😍😭😍😭 I’m glad that SJM didn’t just ignore the scenarios Celaena left behind her when she traveled, that would have annoyed me. Instead we see what is going on there at the same time, and I cried. I did. So much happens while she isn’t there and there’s so many “WTF?!” Moments along the way! But then, SJM really is the queen of twists and turns. But for myself now, this book leaves me excited because I know that the next is my favourite in the series!Heir of Fire continues to improve the complex world SJM has crafted, we get to know our current characters better and there are surprises galore within it! Well worth reading, and certainly needed to understand all that comes after!!And besides... this is the introduction of my BookBoyfriend hahaha if you lived Rhysand, you’re gonna ADORE this guy!

A bargain with Maeve
Third in the 'Throne of Glass' series. This is a series of fantasy novels. Marketed as being for young adults, but they are good enough to be enjoyed by older readers as well. There is nothing in this volume to bring new readers up to speed, so they should start with Throne of Glass: 1 instead.Regular readers, read on.This volume runs for five hundred and sixty two pages. It is divided into two parts. The split is at page three hundred. There are sixty eight chapters. Plus a map of the setting at the front. There's a couple of bits of strong language, plus some moments of gore and violence. And a scene or two of an adult nature. At the start of this, Celaena is off on the mission that she was given at the end of book two. But rather than doing that, she makes a bargain with a certain queen. That leads her to into training, which will make her uncover a lot about herself. Plus some interesting new acquaintances. The plots of the King continue. Chaol and Dorian both have their own plans. But surprises await both. The two also get involved with interesting new people.Meantime, a new character faces learning how to fly a strange beast, and seeking family approval. When all these events are said and done, things will never be the same again...Starting with some superbly evocative prose that once again really grips and really conveys the setting, the term epic fantasy really could have been invented to describe this. The big picture of events across the continent becomes more and more clear, and the sheer depth of story and plot really is very impressive indeed. But at no point will you be struggling to remember who is who or what is going on, as it's all very easy to follow. The romantic triangle we had before is given extra dimensions by the aforementioned new characters. Some of this is very well written romance indeed. There is a slight lull towards the end of part one, but it's never dull. Things really start to move once part two gets going. And the events of the final sixty pages are not ones that you will forget for a long long time. There's some very brave and unforgettable writing here. This is not the end of the story. It will leave you desperate to know what is going to happen.Really great fantasy writing and the best book yet in a terrific series. Roll on the next one.

Aelin. Celaena. Fire-Breathing Queen. Please Pick One.
Every time I finish a book in this series, I think, “Surely that’s as good as it gets.” Then Sarah J. Maas casually proves me wrong.Heir of Fire takes the world from castles and competitions and blows it wide open. There are so many storylines unfolding at once, yet somehow they all kept me completely invested. I spent much of the book wondering how on earth these characters and plots were ever going to connect, and now I can’t wait to find out. This book was far more emotional than the previous two. Watching Aelin struggle with grief, guilt, and discovering who she really is added real depth to the story. Rowan grew on me far more than I expected, and I have a feeling Manon and her witches are going to become very important indeed. My only complaint? There are so many names for Celaena. Aelin. Celaena. Assassin. Lost Queen. Fire-Breathing Bitch Queen. At this point I feel she needs a name badge so I can keep up.The series somehow keeps getting better with every book. The world is expanding, the stakes are getting higher, and I am becoming increasingly concerned about how emotionally attached I am to fictional characters. Also, Sarah J. Maas, if you’re listening: more Fleetfoot, please. The kingdom may be on the brink of disaster, ancient evil may be returning, and witches may be riding wyverns, but I would still appreciate regular updates on the dog.Straight on to Queen of Shadows for me. Apparently sleep and household responsibilities are now optional.

Exceptional writing, suspense, intrigue and hope
A compelling and riveting mix in a novel that has mystery, intrigue and suspense, really well written as you would suspect from such a talented author, the story is really building at pace now and feels set to really explode in the next installment.

FINALLY
The second book was an improvement on the first - this blew the second out of the park!Do NOT read on if you've not read the first two books! We meet Celaena in Wendlyn, where she was sent to by the King (at Chaol's recommendation) so she could defeat his enemies there. Is she going to do that? Hell no, this is Celaena of course! However, she does not expect to meet the people she does, or uncover even darker secrets and creatures that the King of Adarlan has unleashed.I don't want to say anything else on the plot, because it is too risky to for me to spoil things. If like me, you were a little underwhelmed by the first two, the first 200 pages of this were a bit of a slog for me. It feels completely different to the first book as the chapters flick between multiple characters and there is a lot of world building and history thrown at you. Please stick with it, this book gets seriously good, I couldn't put it down as I was desperate to know what happened with the many characters and I cannot wait to see what happens next. The ending shocked me, Rowan grew on me and I LOVE Abraxos, that's all I have to say. Bravo Sarah J Maas, I am officially hooked.

5 Firey stars - fabulous with substance around the characters
5 Flaming and fiery 4 stars for Heir of Fire and the best in the series so far. Immersive, captivating and oh so satisfying. Why? Well this one was all about the character development which made a refreshing change but still accompanied with all the beautiful fantastical storytelling, intriguing world building and cleverly plotted events and threads to the story. A continuation of the dark fairy tales that I feel addicted to but am now having to pace because I am running out of SJM books. The Plot - Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King's Guard sends Celaena away to fulfil her destiny, but not as friends - this is a lovers to enemy parting because Celaena holds him responsible for the death of Nimena and not supporting her against the King of Adarlan.Nevertheless, Celaena is on a voyage of discovery that is likely to turn her into one of Adarlan’s toughest enemy. A threat and a woman with a grudge, but then there is an interesting twist. Landing in a new world, Celaena’s powers, prowess and fighting skills appear very ordinary, because here we see “the greatest assassin” (a cheesy title I must confess) made to look very ordinary and flawed. And so, under the watchful eye of Rowan (drool) she is to be trained, weaponised but not just in the fighting arena but also in life, attitude, and in her mind.Review and Comments - I am enjoying Fantasy because it is total escapism!!! Where the imagination has no boundaries - with its magical worlds, dark storylines, and half human characters but with some very real themes of power, greed, love, and betrayal. Then we are dished up ‘Heir of Fire’, with superb character development in the main character Celaena that made this book a cut above the rest.6 ⭐ for superb character development which was the essence of this book5 ⭐ for the storyline and world building that just keeps coming in this series5 ⭐ for the action packed fast pace5 ⭐ for the writing style that is magical and effortlessThe universal themes of Love and lust, war and power, friendship and betrayal continue to dominate this magical kingdom created for us to enjoy, experience, and love, and I did love this ‘flaming’ great book.

"Hold The Line Aelin!"
Another fantastic adventure for Celaena; I was worried this third book would be a total flop based on lots of reviews calling it boring and slow but actually I really enjoyed it.Heir of Fire is split between a few different stories. Celaena is on her way to Wendlyn to meet Queen of the Fae, Maeve but must first embark on some training (basically mastering her Fae side) with task master, and gorgeous Fae, Rowan (with some new evil nasties thrown in to battle). This branch of the story I found really interesting. Maas takes us through some of the events from Celaena's past which was really great, but also forges a new friendship with Rowan who, despite me initially despising him for his arrogance, became a really interesting, complex character. I love the bond Maas has created with this pairing and was impressed it didn't instantly result in endless paragraphs of their attraction for each other! Maybe I'm still feeling a bit dejected for lovely Chaol...Manon, a witch with iron teeth and claws, is also a new character. God I loved her! She is fiery, often cruel and truly hard faced but her grim determination made her such a fantastic character to read about. She, and her clan, are to ride the dark creatures the King has created and her story is basically about her finding and training the right one for her. Whilst battling against other equally cunning witches. It's a builder really for the next book I think, but it's a lot of fun.Of course Prince Dorian and Captain Chaol also have big parts to play as they try to figure out how magic was destroyed and how to keep their King in check. Each character has actually really been developed in this book - and not as I expected either. Dorian really grew some balls! I liked reading about his magic developing, although I did find a romance story arc a little bit distracting and a slightly disappointing fork in the road for his character development - he really needs to get a bit stronger otherwise I think he's a character people will quickly tire of! Nobody likes a sap! This is a really great third book contrary to popular opinion with a gory battle and some cool Fae stories. It absolutely is a filler book; it's mostly building for what's to come, there's no getting around that. But it was by no means boring, with lots of mysteries becoming unravelled and some big changes for some of our characters. I really love that it hasn't been entirely centred on Celaena and how great she is but instead pulled in new characters. Manon and her nasty team are enough to keep you interested! I can't wait to see how they're going to get out of the mess they've been left in.
