Targus XL Notebook case
As one other reviewer mentioned, most (if not all) the reviews on here are for a completely different item, a giant backpack that has little in common with the Targus TXL417 17 XL Notebook Case other than a similar looking model number. Not sure why this happened, as it is very misleading.Anyway, on to the review.I had received a Samsonite leather case as a gift a few years ago, however, the piece that connects the shoulder strap to the bag had almost completely worn away. So, I wanted a new bag that could hold either my 15" dell laptop for work or my 17" hp personal laptop, along with accessories, books, etc, and I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars. This case has a lot of space for your laptop. It's nice and padded, and actually has so much room I could probably fit both my laptops in there at the same time. Technically that's not something you want to try, but that's how much space there is in there. I can easily fit my laptop, power supply, wireless mouse, ipod, headphones and a host of other accessories. I spend a lot of time at work and have a mini-pharmacy in my bag, plus lots of papers and whatever book I'm currently reading. This guy carries it all, and the best part is it's really light- when I had that much stuff in my Samsonite leather case, it felt like I was carrying a small child on my shoulder. Not anymore. This case is made of nylon, and to be quite honest, it isn't the nicest looking thing in the world, I mean compared with other people at my office who have great looking leather bags that probably cost $200+. But that is the least important thing to me, because again my old leather case was nice, but it was heavy, and fell apart after minimal use. This case seems sturdy, and again is quite comfortable. One thing to keep in mind is, while this is roomy for being just a notebook case, it is not a suitcase; i.e. don't expect to fit all of the above I mentioned, PLUS like a change of clothes. Technically you might be able to fit a few pieces of clothing in there, but that's clearly not what it was made for.Bottom line, if you're looking for an inexpensive, quality, roomy and comfortable case that can fit pretty much any size laptop plus any accessories without feeling too bulky, this is a great choice. And if you have to replace it again in a few years, you only paid $50 for it. Not bad considering other bags out there cost double, triple, even 4-5x this one, but will deteriorate at the same rate (ex. my old ~$100 Samsonite case, which I treated fairly well and did not abuse in any way). Good stuff. One other note- I used the amazon super saver shipping for free shipping. I placed the order on Friday morning, it was delivered to my door Tuesday afternoon. Why ever pay for shipping?

Nice case. Fits 17inch laptop.
Great bag. I bought this to replace my aging Targus XL Leather case. Sadly I don't see that case available anymore. They have the "16 inch" leather case but it is not as big as the XL. I found this out because I ordered it and ended up selling it to a friend who had a smaller laptop. This bag fit the bill for a replacement to my old one. While its Nylon compared to the older leather, besides that, everything seems to be about the same. It's not as rigid or as sturdy as the leather but I guess thats to be expected. This bag fits my laptop which is all that I was really worried about. I have an Asus G752 which is a LARGE 17inch gaming laptop. This bag fits it with no troubles. I figured it would since the dimensions are the same as my previous leather Targus XL.Only thing I would change would be to have the leather one, since that one is very thick and lasted through 3 laptops.

Good for the Purpose, but Not Ideal
I have used this case on a daily basis for several months. I selected it as being the best of the available selections on Amazon at the time.Pro's:-- It is strongly made. The handles are exceptionally well made.-- It has a lot of compartments.Con's:-- It is somewhat oversized for a large (15" diagonal) laptop, so it should easily handle a 17" laptop.-- Like all other cases that I have found, it fails to provide user-friendly compartments for the accessories that all laptops need, namely: (1) the mouse, (2) the AC adapter, (3) a spare battery, and (4) a security cable. Storing these items in the case is almost as clumsy as storing items in a woman's purse. It does have a handy snap for securing a USB flash drive.

A Good Light Case
This is a good quality case for a good price. It holds my 17" Macbook Pro easily with a slipcase on. Notebook protection padding is average at 1/4" dense foam on 5 of the 6 sides. It's not sufficient for a good drop, especially on the unpadded top, but good for normal bumps. The case has no rigid panels so the notebook takes any bending stress. This is more a concern for big thin notebooks like the 17" MBP.My only complaint is the handle design. The two split handles nest nicely and are comfortable to carry but they get in the way when opening or closing any of the three main compartment zippers.

Roomy Laptop Case With Class
This review is for the top-loading portfolio case, I'm a business traveler and this bag is classy. This bag is also huge, you can put a 17" laptop in and still have room to spare. The laptop area is adjustable to secure any size laptop or netbook. Plenty of pockets for laptop accessories and paperwork. The handles are plastic but they are comfortable. The side pocket is great for holding your phone or keys. This bag does have the luggage handle pass-through which is nice when travelling with roll-away luggage. One star off for the useless(too small) mesh accessory bags and their pockets, they get in the way of my paperwork.

Good, lightweight
I searched long and hard for a lightweight bag which would accomodate a 17" Dell laptop. I am very small framed and carry this laptop literally every day between work, home and client's offices. So many of the bags that will accomodate this size laptop weigh over 5 lbs, and when added to the weight of the laptop, charger, etc. is too heavy for me. I especially like the molded handle which gives a good secure grip that doesn't strain your hands.I've had this bag for about 3 months now and am very pleased. The zippers don't zip as quickly as I'd like, but otherwise it's a perfect bag for me. Roomy enough for my accessories and a few files. Keeps me from having to carry the laptop plus a briefcase.
