Does this have cork under the felt? Does it work well to tack items on?

We use it as a cork board in our play room for the kids' artwork. It is a sturdy cork board with the added benefit of the blue felt!

Would this work well with flannel story sets for my kids?

It should. It is made of felt but I used it for a different purpose.

We use both around here; however the felt is used specifically as a story board/picture board (she has felt cut-outs that she uses with the board) during class for our elementary Spanish teacher. We use bulletin boards to display class work/artwork/information, etc... for extended periods of time. Hope this helps.
