Q: Why does the box that it arrives in state that it is "up to 15' reach"? It measures approximately 8 1/2'. Does it extend further somehow?

When taken out of the box, it comes in three sections which slips together electrically and then tightened with the attached round coupling nut, it ends up 8 1/2 foot long. When they say it extends up to 15' approximately, it's not the tool that extends, they really mean in combination with your "height" (how tall you are) and your "arm extension" ( your reach) it *could* reach 15', I hope I answered you question.

Q: Can anyone tell me what the max reach - from handle to saw is? Even Green-works can't answer this question. It should be pretty simple for the manuf.

From the tip of the saw to the end of the handle with the extension installed but without the battery is slightly less than 8'7".

Q: is this supposed to come with oil already in it?

I used canola oil from the grocery store, works great, cost about $3. Apparently many arborist use canola oil on their chain saw.

Q: what is the weight of the saw & battery combined

I don't know the exact weight, but I found the saw to be comfortable and very well balanced. I don't think the saw/battery is more than 10lbs. It was easy to use the saw while standing on a ladder.
