Great value, great quality, take-anywhere camera
I bought this camera because I was looking for a cheap, compact camera I could take out with me to places where I wouldn't want to take my larger SLR camera. Given the price, I wasn't expecting too much, but I was very pleasently surprised! This is a great little camera!Firstly, picture quality is great (thanks to the 12 megapixel sensor, and the decent Carl zeise optics). Secondly, the LCD on the back is very large and clear, which makes using it a pleasureWhether you are using it in the quick and simple 'automatic' or 'easy' mode, or trying one of the many preset modes, the results will almost always be great. I love the addition of the specialist settings (the 'snow' setting is particularly useful for me - maintaining the white of the snow by intelligent exposure), and there is even the option of exposure bracketing if you want to play around with some HDR photographs (my Nikon D60 SLR doesn't even have that!).The auto focus and all the other automatic settings seems really accurate and responsive (there's even a setting which automatically detects when you smile! I never get tired of playing with that). I haven't even begun to discover all the automatic modes and features, but the ones I have tried all actually do do something different (and do it well). Inever bother installing the software that comes with these cameras, as I just download my pics and edit in photshop - so I can't comment on the quality/usablilty of the stuff that comes bundled (but sony have always done pretty good software in my experience). The best thing about this camera though, is its sturdy construction and compact size. I always have this in my pocket no in pubs/clubs and just about every day trip I make. It has a quality feel about it (I've dropped mine a couple of times!), but it slips easily into any pocket (I've forgotten my cigarettes on more than one night out, thinking the little box shape in my pocket was the packet!).For the price, this is a steal. I've thought hard about some negative points, and all I can come up with is that (a) the menu buttons are quite small and could be a bit fiddley for our older photographers, and (b) because it is a sony, you have to use a sony memory stick (no big deal nowadays, as they are cheap - but a little annoying if like me you have plenty of old SD cards lying around the place. But don't let that put you off!

Superb simple to use digital camera
Having had a Samsung digital camera for a few years that I was fairly satisfied with, when it broke I thought I'd try something different.I initially went for a Nikon, but the picture quality was poor and the features useless. I returned it and for the same price got this outstanding Sony, which I can easily say is the best digital camera I have ever owned. It has a range of features that are easy to operate and understand, and the buttons are easy to use too. Manual settings are easy to change (ISO, etc) and the screen is nice and large (seven inches), meaning you can check your photos easily. The colours reproduced on-screen are also faithful to the colours that actual appear when you develop pictures, which is more than can be said for some digital cameras. There is a black and white option, the auto focus is good, and the steady shot (anti-shake) truly does its job.The zoom is more than adequate for any amateur photographer (4x optical zoom) and the camera is extremely sturdy. It's also a good size and shape - not too bulky or with annoying protrusions. It sits easily in any bag or even in your pocket, and doesn't feel like it will break if dropped.All-in-all, there is nothing to stop me recommending this camera to anyone.
