A Game-Changer for Swim Training
This is an excellent piece of swimming gear. I use it during my kicking drills so I can conserve energy for the rest of my 60-minute swim workout. I've tried several swim snorkels over the years, but this one stands out for its comfort, stability, and ease of breathing. It allows me to focus on my technique without worrying about turning my head to breathe, which makes my training sessions more effective. I've been using it regularly for over a year, and it has held up very well. If you're looking for a reliable snorkel for swim training, I highly recommend this one.

From "new to swimming" to 10,000 meters weekly
I'm close to being a senior now.... and a long-time runner. Last year I developed persistent and nagging heel problems that caused me to seek other exercise that gave me the same cardio workout, but was a lot easier on the joints. Sooooo, I literally jumped into the pool and started swimming. I could barely do a lap or two without running out of breath and flapping my arms or dog paddling. Obviously I needed to figure out how to swim. After a little research, I realized I needed to invest in a few things - this swimmer's snorkel, pr. of nose clips, ear plugs, swimmer's cap and fins (DMCSWim training fins) in Feb 2012 (now 18 months ago). Wow; I am now swimming 10,000 meters each week (2,500 mt sessions 4 days a week) and absolutely loving the workout!! Without this snorkel, I would have given up on swimming. With it, I can work on a good swimming technique and I really get a great workout. My weight is down and I just really feel great! I still run 3 days a week, but very short distances (3.5 miles) and quite slowly. The heel pain is almost nonexistent, but I'm going to stay with swimming. FWIW, I weaned myself off the fins about 3 months ago. At first I used the fins the entire distance, but over time took them off for increasingly longer distances. Obviously, it's a better workout without the fins, but they helped me immensely get comfortable as a swimmer. The snorkel has worked extremely well. I do clean the purge valve every other week or so and only once in a while do I find myself needing to "clear" it while swimming. Also, I wear a swimmer's cap that is low in my forehead and the snorkel rests on the cap, not the skin of my forehead. This is very comfortable for me. Also, I do really need the nose clips and ear plugs. My sinuses have always bothered me and keeping water out is essential. So, to sum it up, I really love this snorkel. My wife is considering getting into swimming after listening to me tell my buddies just how much I the sport/exercise. I support her no matter what, but if she does want to get into swimming for exercise, I'm sure she'll want to get this snorkel as well.

Review
[ORIGINAL POST: The "water leakage" issue described by some complainants here is likely attributable to condensation. The moist exhale from a human body at 98.6F into a snorkel surrounded by pool water tens of degrees colder is condensing inside the snorkel and contributing water. Unless you wish to design, and pay for, a swimming snorkel which incorporates an evaporator/heat exchanger, you should probably come to grips with a little water in the pipe. That is all. My disappointment with this product reposes with Amazon, not the hardware.] 10-01-2015 POST: I have been swimming with the Swimmers Snorkel for approximately two weeks. As a general observation, I love it and would purchase another one. There are flaws, to be sure, especially the purge valve. You will need to aggressively blow lung air through the snorkel to evacuate collected water - moreso than with a typical scuba snorkel - however it isn't that much of a challenge for me, a regular swimmer, male and approaching age 50 yet fit. Decrepit granny or "the old dude" ought to be able to clear the snorkel provided they can hold breath for ten seconds, the issue isn't all that noticeable. Out of the box, the Swimmers Snorkel reaked of a Chinese plastics factory. I soaked mine first in vinegar, then tap water and subsequently dilute chlorine bleach twice followed by distilled water and vinegar cycles. It cured the plastics stink. In use, I adore this snorkel. Plenty of air, easy to clear once you get the hand of it, comfortable to wear for an hour if you don't snug the strap too tightly and there is no reason to do that (although after an hour, even with light tension, you can feel the muscle strain at the pivot point and at the mouth - I think that's attributable to snorkels in general). For me, this training snorkel, and I train for long swimming distances, is the best implement available that I know of. With proper regime, and provided it fits you, it's a valued training tool that I really appreciate.

WoW!
You guys, wow, this product. This product, you guys, wow. You guys, wow, this product. I'm a novice swimmer, having taken only a few lessons in my adult life. I'm still uncomfortable with my breathing while swimming. Sometimes I can make it one length of the pool without making a breathing mistake (perhaps not enough hip twist), but more often than not I have to briefly stop swimming to collect myself or cough up an ounce of pool water. I find myself huffing and puffing because I begin to panic. I'm not totally out of shape since I bike and run (and swim, poorly) often; in fact, my motivation for purchasing the Finis Swimmer's Snorkel is to improve the first leg of triathlon. Boy, does this product deliver. I'm able to focus completely on my technique, giving me some confidence and an enjoyable workout. I can easily swim the length of the pool and it feels wonderful. I use the snorkel to warm up and warm down, swimming without the accessory during most of the activity. I did get a few sideways glances from some of the folks at the gym but I'm not there to impress, I'm there to become a better swimmer. The snorkel felt a little awkward at first but once I began swimming I no longer noticed it. I was in the zone. For the first time I actually felt my shoulders during the swim, i.e., a shoulder workout. This snorkel is definitely worth a shot.

love it, but 2 defects detract from the snorkel experience....
First, this snorkel really adds enjoyment factor to my daily 45 minute swim. It's amazing how many benefits there are to not having to turn my head for breaths,..such as: Less leaking in the goggles, less leaking in the ear plugs,..less over-all commotion, which improves whatever Zen fantasy trance you are chasing. Also, no sore neck after doing extra laps,.that's good. The best, of course, is being able to breath all the time, which increases your capacity for aerobic exercise. Now, the defects: 1. the 'blow out' valve leaks,..it's infuriating to have to blow out water after every 6 or 7 breaths. And, 2. one of the plastic strap 'lever clamps' broke on the FIRST day, and has been an annoyance ever since. Overall, it's a must buy, especially if you swim many miles a week and want to avoid repetitive stress injury to your neck. It is very comfortable to use, I don't even know I'm using it most the time. I'd give it 5 stars if the valve didn't leak. EDIT, 3 MONTHS LATER: I have zero Idea why,..but it stopped leaking about a month ago, and now it's perfect. If it ever starts leaking again, I'm gonna seal it up with a hot glue gun. Anyway, this snorkel is a prized possession, and now that it decided to stop leaking I am upgrading it from 3 to 5 stars.

Second Finis Snorkel in 10 years, but huge quality drop
I bought a Finis swimmers snorkel 10 years ago. LOVED IT. It was great, comfortable, sturdy, and held up really well. Finally, this year the headband strap broke and the soft rubber mouth part was starting to show wear. So I bought a new one. Because of weather and work, it took me a few weeks to finally get back to the pool and use it. What a huge disappointment. Finis has clearly changed a number of things on the previous design. The snorkel looks nearly identical, but it is SO SO uncomfortable. I can’t wear it for more than one lap as the hard head band is painful. No adjustments I make help. He mouth piece is smaller but more awkward in my mouth. And, to make all of these worse, the headband comes off while I’m swimming, which results in sudden influx of pool water through the snorkel into my mouth. This is supposed to help me swim laps, but result in me coughing and spluttering in the middle of the pool. I gave it three tries for laps, and when no amount of ‘breaking in’ was making it better, I decided to return it. Of course, I missed the return window by a day. So now I’m stuck with this piece of junk. Save your money and the actual physical pain of getting this to work, and buy a different brand.
