Q: Is xlr8 safe for classical strings? i've heard that some string cleaners will dissolve the nylon.

it is mineral oil with fragrance. I am not sure if there is any solvent in it or not. I wouldn't use any oil on nylon. it would at the very least soften them and keep them from being in tune.

Q: Does this work for Bass strings?

Yes. I’ve been using this for several years to clean my bass strings. Works well and extends the life of the strings.

Q: Can i use to clean violin strings?

Do not use this on violin strings.

Q: while this product cleans and lubricate the strings as it will normally do, will it be good for the maple fretboard as well? thanks!

Planet Waves XLR8 String Lubricant is very difficult to use in that it is hard to apply to all facets of the strings and it dries out too quickly. I would try something else.
