Awesome book for illustrators.
The book is meant for artists who have achieved certain level of skills in drawing and are looking to become an illustrator. If you are beginner then kindly look for other Loomis books that have been specially made for beginners. Titles such as Succesfull Drawing, Figure Drawing For All Its Worth, Drawing Heads and Hands etc would be suitable. The book is nicely written for advanced artists and a must buy.

Finally...the true teacher appears !!!
It's been a long frustrating search but finally I have found the teacher I've been looking for in this book. For the past 30 years - I have gone to various art classes, obtained an A-level in Art and then taught myself to use various mediums but I got to a point where my skills didn't improve much and I hit a wall. After much thought I decided to go to art school to do a part time foundation course which was meant to take 2 years to complete. After 1 year I quit and went back to full time work and resolved that traditional art classes don't exist anymore. I have never really come across a teacher that would teach the fundamentals of good art practice and the foundation course made up my mind to stop in my search. Then a couple of weeks ago after reading the reviews for this book and doing illustrations in my spare time - I decided to go for it and get this book. Best decision I ever made. The writing is clear, honest and concise plus his drawings illustrate his point. It delves into perspective, tone, imagination etc. As I read each page I can now see what was holding me back. I wish I'd come across this book all those years ago and perhaps I could have saved some money.I will still carry on as a self taught artist but now I have a teacher guiding me through. Great book!

Really informative
This book is a godsend I've learnt more from this than doing a college course. I've been painting and drawing for 25years but after reading this I realise there is so much more to learn, it's full of profound advice and has been a bit of a revelation to me. Although it's a very old book everything he says still holds true today .
F**!
An enourmous waste of time - full of padding
Like many older books that command a high price because they were big this thing as ridiculous...one chapeter starts by wasting 4 pages telling you what a line is and describing the things that make lines!!Stick to Youtube and get the short version of Loomis's work.

A must have for the budding illustrator
Very good book showing you how to achieve professional results and many example sketches and drawings as well as working in colour, also submitting work to your clients is explained too.

A genius from the past reprinted for the future
WOW, a true expert in creating a picture, whether for an advert or for art.He explained it well and offers his all to you the reader.A must have for people learning to create pictures with monotone or colour. It may be 70 years old but it still has a place in teaching art, more so than most books.
