The opening is about 24 inches.

Can you use this with pellets?

Using pellets wouldn’t make any sense. Pellets would fall into the vent holes on the bottom Its for wood specifically logs of wood

Hi, we are in the Midwest . Can we cover and leave outside all winter?

We have 5 Solo Yukon stoves in our family. All stay outdoors 12 months. They’re used throughout the year almost constantly. We burned ours last night! The stainless steel is pretty durable however I’d definitely recommend getting the round cover lid to keep the stove dry and prevent ash from becoming wet. I’d say yes! Leave it outside…

Love the stove. It is my second one.Cover was too short (optional) as this stove comes with a stand. Also spark screen is not durable.Deteriorates in less than a year.
