very good but not quite perfect
Awesome bit of kit. Just used it to cook some jacket potatoes. Connected the Meater to an iPad in the kitchen then monitored the cook from my phone in the garden (which is out of Bluetooth and WiFi range). The graphs show how well the temperature controller in the oven works!Connecting to either iPad or iPhone is so easy, it just happens and the app works perfectly with YouTube tutorial links built in. The estimated cooking time left feature is very handy. No issue with getting a Bluetooth signal out of oven or a metal bbq with the lid down. The great bit about the Meater is since it’s wireless I can use it with my rotisserie.Design is really neat. The little wooden box not only stores the Meater but also charges it from the internal AAA battery (supplied), and there’s a couple of magnets in it so you can stick it on any metal surface.DownsidesCooking in a metal oven or BBQ hammers the Bluetooth range but the signal does get out. Wrapping in foil also causes issues but poking the MEATER through the foil fixes this.Great for thicker cuts but thin cuts like steak on a BBQ cause issues as the end of the Meater is very close to the grates and any flames result in alarms going off because the 275deg max temperature has been exceeded. If you cook a whole chicken/turkey then you need enough knowledge and skill to be able to get the probe into the bird at exactly the thickest/coolest point. That said, if you get it wrong, you can reinsert the probe and the app will recalculate the cooking time. The app tends to under-estimate the temperature rise of thinner cuts during resting. Fortunately, if you want your steak medium-rare, set the app to rare and this will compensate for the error. It calculates the temperature after resting correctly for larger cuts such as whole chickens.

It works
Whilst I bought this in November 2022, Christmas day was the first time I used it to cook a large, rolled turkey crown.I calculated the cooking time at 20 mins per lb (450g) plus 20 min, plus resting time of 20, which came to 2hrs 55min. I should have taken the joint out of the fridge the night before, rather than that morning, as the internal temperature was very low when I put it in the oven, which I would not have realised if not for the MEATER readings. This meant it took an extra 30 minutes to cook, so without the MEATER my joint would have been under-cooked had I taken it out based on my calculations and the rest of the meal would have been cooked far too early. The estimated time to cook was a god send. When I first received it, I set it up to work with Alexa, as my sitting room was just out of the 4m distance. This meant it was ready to go on Christmas day. It was easy to say, 'Alexa open MEATER', then ignore anything else she was wittering on about and ask her 'Alexa what is the internal temperature?' or Alexa what is the ambient temperature?'. One issue I did have was that Alexa would not say what the estimated cooking time was, at any time throughout the cook - I had assumed she would, so this was disappointing. I don't know whether this was a fault with Alexa or the MEATER or user error. One thing that is important to know, is that it will not register the estimated time to cook until the ambient temperature reaches 40 degrees. If you're using foil over the roasting pan this can take quite some time for the temperature to rise high enough to register (well over 30 minutes for my joint).I really like that it is suitable for oven, air fryer and BBQ, although I will have to contact the company to check if I can use it when I boil hams as it is not waterproof. It is easy to clean and because it is charged from a battery, I don't have to worry about it not being charged. The wooden housing it sits in is well made and I like that it has magnets on, so I can store it on my fridge door (not taking up room in an already overcrowded utensils drawer).Overall, I was impressed with this device, as it saved me from the disaster of serving Christmas lunch with an under-cooked turkey. The estimated cooking time meant I could adjust everything else so that all the food was ready at the same time. Whilst the cost is a little high, I would still very much recommend this device. And as Alexa says 'Happy cooking'

Takes out the guess work, 10m questionable
For what I have cooked so far steaks, joints etc. the recommended times within the app have been spot on. App is very easy to navigate and connected seamlessly with the device. My only draw back is that when using it on a BBQ with the lid down the range of the signal goes down to about 1m, this is also the case when used within an oven. Now my BBQ and oven are not made of lead or thick steal, so was surprised how much it did affect the signal. I know it’s only a small device, but one would assume they don’t expect the lid or a door to be left open, but that is the only way you are going to get anything close to the advertised 1m.This being said, everything else is great.

Amazing Bluetooth meat probe - works perfectly
Amazing wireless probe. Fully recommend. Very easy to set up on my iPhone. It worked well on roast whole chicken, although perhaps slightly underdone. I kept my phone in kitchen and no issue with Bluetooth connection. App is well designed and easy to use. It come in a rather “retro” wooden charging unit with a AAA battery (I’d have liked a USB charge option).Cooking with this gives you 100% cooked meats without worry. Ovens vary their heat and all meat is different and this probe takes the stress out of cooking. It really does work. Roast beef joint it perfect and you can set it exactly how you want it. When you start cooking this way you will wonder why you didn’t earlier!
