Logic Pro X 10.4 - Apple Pro Training Series: Professional Music Production

Step by step to successful recording.
This is the best instruction book I have found. It moved through the steps without leaving me with more questions than answers. Easy and to the point. I am 63 years old and have been playing guitar since I was 8. I play my own stuff, playing what I feel. Over the years I have created a lot of original riffs. I have lived a full and adventurous life. That means I have a lot of stories about life. I naturally gravitated towards song writing to tell my stories and to express my feelings about the woman I have loved and the way I see the human experience. Not being a tech whiz and being rather reluctant to to become one at my age, I felt quite intimidated by my Logic Pro X program and the learning curve involved. I sat down in front of my Mac, with the DAW up and ready and I put this manual on my iPad. Away I went. Some hours later, I had me a ripping rap jam. It was perfect. I got so excited, I got naked and danced until I couldn't dance no more. It scared my dog so bad he wouldn't come out from under the bed. My neighbor called me and asked "what the HECK ARE YOU DOING OVER THERE!?!?" I told him I am creating music and recording it almost like a professional! When I am finished with this instruction, I will have all the tools I need to record anything I want. All I can tell you is that it will do the same for you. You better buy this book before they outlaw it for being to dang good.

Rave Review
I am new to both apple iOS and DAW type of software this past year. This book is the perfect solution for me as It's a hands on step by step tutorial which lends itself to helping be become quickly familiar and able to produce a basic song file right away. I'm glad I took some time first to get comfortable with my iMac 27 first, (which was not nearly as hard as I had feared (if your thinking of switching I'm never going back to a windows PC, I love my Mac!) I'm over 60, a musician who no longer performs but I wanted to try to write songs I have recorded a la analogue hardware but have not the money or space for that stuff anymore . all digital music applications are new to me, what an exciting array of possibilities there are in the digital music world, I was anxious to dive in so this book is just great for me, I also followed their advice and learned many keyboard shortcuts which really help the process flow more smoothly without positioning a mouse over and over for repetitive tasks. So all around a Rave Review worth every cent.

Great for beginners, lacking for enthusiasts
I'm a logic user for about 5 years now. I purchased this in hopes of refining my skills and becoming a Logic expert. The author runs a very popular website that I frequently come across when searching for help with issues. As an authority on Logic, I assumed I would take away a lot from his book.I think the confusion may be in the name: "Pro training series" and "Professional Music Production" lead me to believe that this would delve deeper into the features of the software. Rather, I felt the book focused only on the basic core skills one would need. There were a few tricks I learned because the author has included all keyboard shortcuts to help with workflow. However, this is more of an official help-type document that opens with instructions to install the software, create projects, save as, etc. that may be on the certification exam, but are not what I feel are related to "Professional Music Production."The examples are helpful and relevant to the chapters, but I felt they were rather basic and the exercises include rather obvious exaggerated clips for emphasis.I think this would be a great, easy to follow book if you have never used a DAW, but it covers less than you can get from youtube tutorials. If you are looking for help specifically with the outer layer of Logic, this will get you there and likely improve your workflow. If you are looking to be better working with composing, vocals, mixing, mastering, or anything beyond creating your first complete project, I think the time would be spent better elsewhere.

Good book
Clear, mostly easy to follow, and the best part is the author hangs in the LogicPro Help forum in case I have follow up questions so it's almost like having a correspondence tutor. So far (I'm in Chapter 6 now) it is skimming a number of things you can do with this amazing DAW, now knowing a little of what can be done, I will probably go back & focus on the things that are most pertinent to the type of music I do. I'm more about basics, and not so much about gimmicks like arpeggiator -- just taking real recorded audio and MIDI tracks and making them sound good. I was gonna loan this book after I finished, but the nice list of keyboard shortcuts in the back makes me not want to part with it.

Outstanding Turorial
This great book is a joy to read and learn from. It's well laid-out, thoughtfully edited, and quite comprehensive. I quickly went from being fully overwhelmed by Logic to being a competent and confident amateur. I'll likely have to go through it at least three times to get all there is to get out of it, and I look forward to doing just that!(p.s. not only am I learning about Logic, but I'm also getting generally helpful tips on the songwriting and music production process by following Nahmani's workflow.)

Certifyng or just learning -- this is THE book
This book identifies the essential workflows and tells you how to do them most effectively, with alternate options, in Logic. No confusion, no fluff -- here's how you do it. And also -- just as important -- what you will need to do -- correcting pitch, matching tempo, automation, cutting and splicing -- everything you need for a straightforward audio/midi engineering session. This, and some additional practice, is said to be all you need to pass certification -- I'll let you know once I've taken the exam. Meantime, if you just want to produce great sounding recordings in Logic quickly and efficiently -- or if you want to find out just how powerful Logic is -- then this is the book to get.

One of the best!
I never write reviews, but I just finished the course book and I immediately hopped on Amazon to review it. This book is an incredible step by step guide to teaching the ins and outs of Logic X. There are downloadable files that come with purchase of the book, so you are actively using the program while reading the lessons. Already recommended it to friends who have purchased it as well.

struck gold with this book
(BRAND NEW TO LOGIC AND MUSIC CREATION SO NOVICE POINT OF VIEW)Im not normally a lover of these books as I'm a kinaesthetic learner but it was a present from my daughter so felt obliged to stick with it. Im so pleased I did it brilliant. The book is structured in a logical sequence applying what you learnt in the previous lesson and adding to it to not only to reinforce learning but also add to your leaning.I genuinely love and can't put it down. I only found out later by googling the author David Nahmani but he runs a well known logic pro help forum so has a great pedigree on the subject matter.Probably like most people If I was buying a book for my self this book was more expensive than the other obvious choices so may have been put off, don't be as this has everything a beginner to intermediate learner needs.Really great book get it.
