Higonokami Folding Knife – Blue Paper Steel 90mm

First and foremost, this is not for a child, and not for a novice. This knife has ZERO safety features! With that said, this is a hidden gem. I am an avid knife collector. Throughout the community, I heard about this knife. The history is what initially sold me. To keep this ADHD friendly (which I have) do your own research on the history of this knife, I won't bore you. I personally don't like carbon steel, due to the constant attention of maintaining it. (Again, I have ADHD, if you know, you understand.) ALTHOUGH...this might be the exception to the (my) rule. The blade is sharp. It will dull earlier than super metals, but a child can sharpen it back to razor sharp edge. (No child should touch this...but you get the point) I tested this on paper, and it was a clean cut. I tested it on (to be honest, basswood, which is super soft) and it cut through it like butter. The brass, will patina and for me looks great. Also, I find myself (blade out) flicking the handle to hear the sound of the brass making a bell sound. To compare it to other knives on the market is unfair. This is still handmade and it is carbon steel. It lacks any safety measures and relies on thumb pressure to keep it steady. It being handmade the knife rests inside the bezel better than some major manufacturers. Some major "American" companies sell knives with modern concepts at or cheaper prices but fail horribly (I'm talking about a company that starts with a G and ends with a R and has six letters in their name). This blade does not move, it does not wiggle it's sturdy, for something that has no locking mechanism. Depending on the size you purchase, it will disappear in your pocket. It's light weight, sharp, and relatively easy to maintain. I am also an avid camper. This is NOT, a recommended dedicated knife for survival, Bushcraft or Armageddon. This is more for the glamper, or day camper. It will make wonderful feather sticks, it's great for whittling, (actually, if you researched the history, this is one of the things it what designed for). It's also small enough to be legal in most states (I am in the United States, please check your local laws). In conclusion, I am so happy with this, that I have put my Benchmade and Spyderco on the shelf. I put M390, and Magnacut aside, to use this. I use a knife religiously for work. This has replaced my expensive American made blades, knowing, I have to sharpen this more frequently.

I love this knife. It is very sharp and is visually appealing. it is flat so you can put it in your pocket without knowing it is there. It is pretty lightweight and gets the job done.

Better than expected for the price. ALOT BETTER! I have had a smaller one on my keyring for years. Sharp enough to shave leg hairs hahah and its not going to randomly open in my pocket. I will buy more of these. Definitely getting one for my nephew when he is a little older. Im not saying ot will be the only knife I carry but if Im out in town, odds are this cool little knife will be in my pocket. Its not ideal for protection or self defense but It would be a lot better than nothing! Its a great little tool for opening mail or the dozens of amazon boxes I get monthly. I reckon anyone who complains about a 29 dollar knife has warped expectations. I have no complaints about it. If you want to play rambo with a knife, 29 dollars is never gonna get you there. Sharpen your pencils look for Godzilla and stop whining. Hahahahah

Great Googlymoogly! This is some hard steel. Wonderfully forged, it was expeditiously sharpened — on a grinder. None of, that is zero of, the knives I have bought were sharpened the way I would have put edges on them. Honestly I spend way more time keening them up than I do parting out anything I cut outside of the kitchen. This center of presumably Hitachi White is HARD. Takes a stunning edge, and makes me wish for a 100 to 175mm sanmai fixed blade in a western style sheath and scales . . . that I could (would be willing to) afford. I note that this folder, when closed, easily comes into contact with the folded brass handle which was not going to fly. I inserted a 1/2 inch split length of vinyl tube to prevent that. The took a bit of jiggery and fiddling. I LIKE that the blade does not swing out easily. With the rivet pin fit as mine is assembled, there is NO chance it will open in your pocket. There will be some hours yet of polishing the sides remaining. I am working on an acetic acid patina before I get to the stropping. After the stropping I will put a thin coat of a drying oil such as walnut on it since use will easily wear this away and if I cut a apple with it there will be no toxicity. What a fine blade.

I’ve had mine for weeks now & put it through its paces. I like the knife & its concept. Very few pieces and easy to carry. It is priced at its high end and I would not recommend the knife unless you buy it all-in with shipping at its $35 dollars or less. Any cost higher? Get a different model pocket knife. The blade “sharpness” claims are bogus. It will hone well but will not stay sharp & acute for long. My blade edge rests against the frame as it’s built to do but this ruins the edge. And….ITS HARD TO GET IT HONED WELL. The steel does not appear anything high-end and should not be given any special consideration. My blade also stained from use with commercial fertilizer. The knife stays clean and is easy to care for BUT its history and its abilities are overly and dramatically advertised. I would buy another. It’s definitely well built and built to last. I like that. It’s also easy to use & carry. But, it’s just NOT some end all of pocket knives. I believe the ads for this knife are making claims that are way exaggerated. But, as long as the cost does not rise, it is a decent everyday pocket knife for anyone.

This knife is really good, sharp and convenient. While this isn't a drawback but buyers should know it rusts easily, traditionally japanese blacksmiths use carbon steel which oxidizes rapidly. Keep it oiled with WD40, Linseed oil, wax, or other oils and it wont rust.

This knife sucks I have 3 diamond and a strap and polishing the steel will not hold a edge. So save your money even though I bought it for the price lol
