Jammie Dodgers, 4.9 Ounce (Pack of 4)

There definitely is going to be a variety of personal preferences with regard to these cookies, which makes it hard to rate them for everyone. The packages I received were in good condition, no significant breakage or staleness issues. I’ve never had a Jammie Dodger before, though, so I can’t compare to anything purchased from a store as far as freshness. I think an important factor here is that the cookie/biscuit part is not particularly sweet, and many Americans might expect more sweetness from their cookies. They are a pretty dry texture and crumbly. I’d actually put them somewhere between a cookie and a cracker as far as texture and flavor goes. The filling is a great raspberry flavor that I really like. I won’t be eating them on their own because I prefer a sweeter, more flavorful cookie for that, but they are a good cookie for pairing with tea and that is how I plan to enjoy them.

I’d first heard about Jammie Dodgers during the Matt Smith era of Doctor Who. He would occasionally make reference to them and I wasn’t sure what they were, so I looked them up. The British would call them a biscuit. Americans would call them a cookie. I have to say they’ve claimed a fond place in my heart (and my mouth) just for their sheer novelty. The cookie part is a bit dry, and the jammie filling has an odd flavor, and while it says raspberry, I can’t really say I agree with it. Some people will fall in love with them though, and others will never try one again. Jammie Dodgers have a way of being polarizing like that. At any rate, I’m going to keep on enjoying them!

I have been on amazon since 2001 but this is my first review. The reason I wanted to finally review something, is becausee this product is AMAZING. I first became curious about this item, because I am an anglophile & a nerd to all things Doctor Who, so when this was mentioned on the show, I had to try it. The cookies arrived in good condition & the price was VERY good. JD's are composed of two cookies with a fruit jam between. The cookie tastes like childhood. Its absolutely delicious, sort of a mix between a cookie dough, a sugar cookie, & a butter cookie. It's texture is still crumbly but not dry & crispy, it has a sort of a bite. The jam between is a mix of raspberry with a HINT of cinnamon apple. The consistency of the jam is SPOT ON. Its not hard & brittle, but not too liquid. Its sort of chewy, & it tastes amazingly delicious & because the entire cookie is all natural, it tastes all natural. The entire cookie/biscuit is not too sweet unlike many saccharine American cookies like Oreos, chips ahoy or even similar cookies with fruit jam in the middle, which have almost twice the sugar content! When I first tried this cookie, I ended up eating the entire 8 cookies in the package! They are SOOO ADDICTIVE! As I stated before, it tastes like a piece of childhood :) Trust me you MUST try these beautifully delicious cookies (or if your british, biscuits). Next I am hoping to try another British favorite: Jaffa cakes. I can finally satisfy my sweet tooth for these british favorites without having to either travel to the UK or have someone bring my some back :) In conclusion it seems that The Doctor was correct....Jammie Dodgers are amazing!

Dr Who is what lead me to these, but the Jammie Dodgers themselves have kept me buying more. My favorite flavor has to be raspberry. The 18 packs are the best value and come in sturdy packaging. While I've only had fresh ones, my friends call them stale Pop Tarts, but they don't know what they are talking about.

Mine arrived today. They are good and tasted as I expected. Some of them did arrive broken. That could be because of the flimsy bag they arrived in, although it is possible that even if they had been in a box, they could have still been broken. Luckily, only a few had a little bit of the biscuit broken off, while only one was more broken in half.

The jam in these was not jammy, but more gummy (stiff like gum drops). More like dried out jam. The flavor of jam was fine, as was the nice cookie texture.

I live in the US. I first learned about these from Doctor Who. I bought them as a special treat for my kids and I to eat while watching the show. Since they are not available locally they will continue to be just an occasional treat for us but we do enjoy them.

Don’t buy these. Cookies were broken to bits. What was left whole tasted old. The filling was hard.
