Oxford Illustrated Children's Dictionary

Definitely would recommend this dictionary! My daughter loves it and her teacher said that she made an excellent choice

I bought this for my 6 yr old daughter to look up words for her weekly spelling test. She uses it for this purpose, but also spends ages looking up words for fun!! Easy to use with some pictures ( but not too many) and has a printed alphabet guide on the edge of each page as a reminder. Great Quality paper, hard wearing. I am sure she will get years of use out of it. Well worth the money & quick delivery as usual from Amazon.

I was torn between Childrens Illustrated Dictionary (Gold Stars) (which I have) and this Oxford Illustrated Children's Dictionary to give as a present to a 10 -year old girl who studies English as the second language. I am not disappointed in my choice. Firstly, it comes from Oxford University Press, secondly, it contains over 50,000 words and definitions, and even though it does not have many illustrations and the paper is not glossy, I found, upon closer examination, that the dictionary will be perfect for a child at school. But although this is a good general dictionary for children and young teens, with a good and all-areas-of-life inclusive selection of words, I was expecting more images as the title says "illustrated". There are pages that do not have images at all. But this is a minor disappointment.

The layout is perfectly suited for about 6+. The pictures and definitions are engaging and my children loved learning new words. Would definitely recommend.

My 8 year old actually asked santa for this as her christmas present as she is advanced in learning way above her age and so she wanted to know what certain words meant. Shes even taken it to school to show her teacher and use. My only disappointment is that it doesnt have the word muggle in it when i thought all dictionaries have that now?

Brilliant. Ideal for children and encourages them to make use of dictionary to extend their vocabulary and understand the meaning of words they might come across when reading alone. Sturdy book and worth buying with the Thesaurus. Invaluable.

I needed a child's dictionary with British spellings for preparing children for the British school system, and this is it. The definitions are easy to understand even for a young ESL student. The pictures, while obviously there isn't one for every definition, are very helpful. For example, my student recently looked up "trumpet", saw the picture and immediately recognized what it was. They have added the alphabet in little, different colored blocks along the side of each page and color coded the tab for each letter to match, making it easier for a child to find the correct area of the dictionary more quickly. What more can I say? British spellings, pictures, easily intelligible definitions, a good sized book, quality paper, and ease of use. Just perfect!

Great British dictionary for children

A good dictionary for my first grade son. Great selection of words but font size is a bit small.
