Quicken Premier 2018 – 27-Month Personal Finance & Budgeting Software [PC/Mac Download] – Amazon Exclusive (Old Version)

I try to stay from writing reviews on Amazon but this program is so awful that I overcame my natural aversion to writing reviews to log in and write one.I have been using Quicken since 1995. I have faithfully updated my version every year to support the product and to stay current on the versions. I did this even though for what I need to do there has been no visible increase in utility in this program for quite some time. Just like many other users I have watched the ownership transfer at Quicken - suspicious that a hedge fund is the new owner now - but willing to give it a chance.This program does not work a very basic level. I cannot log into my file. It worked yesterday and it does not work today. There is virtually no support available on the Quicken website - I have been waiting to "chat live" for over 30min now (the web page said the wait time was 6min). I object to the fact that I need to log into my Web Quicken account every time I want to open my file. But even if I was ok with that, now it doesn't work. I get a blank screen with the word "Success" written across it - and everything else is blank. Please understand, I am not only upset that the file is not working this one time. This is a culmination of many things leading me to this review. I specifically DO NOT WANT TO LOG INTO THE INTERNET with my financial data. I do not understand why I am REQUIRED to log into my online Quicken account every time I want to open my financial data on my own computer with software that is located on my own computer (obviously if you want to update stock prices, etc.. it is necessary to connect to the internet but I want to have the option to open the file on my computer without the internet - and in any case, I am connected to the internet now and it stiff does not work). If you disconnect your computer from the internet, you can't open your file at all. In my case, even if you are connected to the internet, I still can't open the file. The support on their website is AWFUL. You can't send them a message, I do not seem to be able to talk to them via chat, and they charge money for help over the phone.It is not even worth going into a review of Quicken's features because (a) they haven't changed for a long time, and (b) it really doesn't matter since all I am dealing with is the inability to even log into my file. Even before this happened today, every time I logged in it would tell me I had successfully logged in - only to pop up the login screen again, as if I hadn't logged in at all. Resetting passwords or setting up new user IDs didn't seem to make a difference.My advice to new users: do not spend any time entering your data into this application. Instead, look for alternatives. I challenge Quicken to respond to this review. Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me that you have not been inundated by users whose software (that they pay for) does not work. Tell me that Quicken users have responded positively to the support you provide. Tell me that there haven't been tons of issues with the log-in.To add insult to injury Quicken has set up a "Community" area of the website where they have provided a space for users to help each other, i.e. to provide the help that Quicken itself does not seem to want to staff up to do....

It would be zero stars if Amazon would allow it.1. Your existing Quicken account cannot be linked to this purchase. Who knows why that is but nevertheless, you have to effectively "start over" with Quicken.com. It's a multi-step, frustration-filled process where Quicken makes it known you, the purchaser, are completely at fault for not having purchased Quicken at quicken.com. How dare you!2. There are exactly zero improvements between 2016 Premier and 2018 Premier. Well there is one change: Although I knew this going in, the price doubled. Oh, and annoying things got added like "Link it Now", which is even more annoying. And the UI is a train wreck of conflicting ... well, everything. Nearly impossible to read without a headache.3. Still doesn't display correctly on high-resolution monitors. Those fancy laptops that have existed for 10 years now....4. Conversion of 2016 to 2018 data doesn't work. Account balances don't match between the two products. I validated the file before the upgrade and it found no problems. That's about par for the course but it would have been nice to see.5. Since it is Quicken 2018 one would think maybe the Tax Planner would support 2018? This is kind of a big reason to, you know, PLAN. Apparently not to Quicken.6. RANDOM ADVERTISING EVERYWHERE. Half the registers now have an advertisement (1/3 of the height of your screen) extolling the virtues of "Zillow" (don't know why that's relevant in my "Cash" account but whatever). Close the advertising down and sure enough, it re-appears the next time you start Quicken 2018.7. SLLLLLooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww..... I have history back to 2001. Press <enter> after entering a transaction, wait 2 seconds. May not seem like much but using it is a nightmare. Quicken 2016 was maybe 1/2 second. Still pretty awful but about normal for Quicken performance. Switching accounts takes 3 seconds.Garbage product to be avoided. Returning it, such as a 'downloaded' product can be returned. Getting money back anyway. It would be better spent elsewhere with a company that deserves it.

Converted easily enough from Quicken 2017, but still has the same problem with high resolution screens that it always has. I can't believe they haven't fixed this yet. The register windows won't display properly on high resolution screens. Looks and performs exactly the same as the 2017 version so not worth the upgrade. The application crashes almost every session. All of a sudden one day when I opened the application, the budget that I had spent hours creating had disappeared, along with several years of budget history. Don't waste your money or your time. The quality of this software is very low and you will be very frustrated.

I've been a long time Quicken user, since 1999. I had a PC for all those years, until 2012, when I bought an iMac. I love the iMac and will never go back to a Windows based PC . I continued to use the Windows version, because you can run windows apps on a Mac using "bootcamp". I've been using Quicken 2015 (for Windows), but when I got an email saying Q2015 would stop being supported for "online" downloads, I thought I would try the 2018 version for Mac. I bought the PC/Mac download here on Amazon. I installed the Mac version, and converted my data files. To make a long story short, The Mac version didn't begin to compare with the previous Q2015 version for Windows! I don't understand why Quicken can't/won't make the Mac version function like the Windows version? I have deleted the Mac version, and the Windows version is as good, or better, than the previous "windows" version. It's really too bad that Quicken can't produce a Mac Version that compares with the Windows version. It would be a pleasant surprise if they did!
