Pure Original Ingredients, Guar Gum Powder, 8 Oz

I started using this Guar Gum and carrageenan powder to improve the texture of homemade soft serve, and the results have been excellent. It creates a much creamier consistency and helps keep the ice cream smooth instead of becoming icy. A very small amount goes a long way, so the container should last quite a while. If you enjoy making homemade frozen desserts, this is definitely worth trying.

There were no directions accompanying this product; it would have been useful to know how much to use to thicken various common recipes or to substitute for other thickeners. It is flavorless, and a little seems to go a long way. I had been using xanthan gum to thicken salad dressing, and I can use less guar gum to thicken the same amount. It thickens even better when recipe includes fat. It does not require heat to activate. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase.
