Yes you can that's why I bought it. It's great for the pass card as well as the pins if you collect them.

Is this big enough to hold a passport book?

No. It is only big enough for something a little larger than and ID card. Nevertheless, it is well made and my daughter loved wearing it.

does it come with the picture of the princesses in the cardholder?

Yes, it did!! Very cute and it was perfect for pin trading!!

Is this silky ribbon, or a nylon strap or something else? Also, how wide is it please?

I'm not in possession of this lanyard any more, but as I recall it was about 3/4" wide. It was made of a sturdy satin type ribbon. It held the Disney pins beautifully!
