Binge Eating Disorder , written by a clinician and an advocate who have personally struggled with Binge Eating Disorder (BED), illuminates the experience of BED from the patient perspective while also exploring the disorderโs etiological roots and addressing the components of treatment that are necessary for long-term recovery. Accessible for both treatment providers and patients alike, this unique volume aims to explore BED treatment and recovery from both sides of the process while also providing a resource for structuring treatment and building effective interventions. This practical roadmap to understanding, resilience, and lasting change will be useful for anyone working clinically with or close to individuals suffering from BED, as well as those on the recovery journey. Review: Information that WORKS! - As a client of this book's author, I must say that this book contains the core of everything she has taught me, and then more! I particularly liked reading the scenarios by Chevese at the beginning of each chapter and the other quotes of comments by Amy's clients. It really helps to hear the voices of others dealing with the same issues I have around eating, because it's just so easy to feel like I am the only one in the world going through this. And knowing that the author herself has and is living with BED has also helped me so much. The incredible lists of references are also amazing - if you are reading the book and the ideas of a particular person particularly resonate with you, look up more of the works of that scholar/reference and bring them to your therapist or if you don't have one, really focus on their ideas as you can. This field is so new, and so many mental health professionals are unaware of what BED is really about that you may need to educate your therapist - I actually searched for a long time before I found the Center for Eating Disorders in Ann Arbor, MI and joined the group of clients that drive distances for their skills. Don't be afraid - this book alone can get you understanding and growing toward health and an acceptance of yourself around food issues. Review: Outstanding new resource for professionals and people with binge eating disorder - This book fills a gap in our understanding of Binge Eating Disorder by perfectly melding the eloquently expressed lived experience of Chevese Turner and the seasoned clinical expertise of Amy Pershing. The point of view is broad and integrative, drawing on personal and clinical experience and current research to address the myriad factors that can predispose someone to develop this crushing disorder. Based on these factors, the authors then outline carefully developed therapeutic tools and a road map for recovery. Steeped in wisdom, compassion, honesty, and academic expertise this book is a must-read for health care providers of all disciplines as well as individuals struggling with symptoms of binge eating disorder and the people who care about them.

A must read for the BED patient. An amazing tool.
An amazing resource. A BED patient, I have done 5 years of psychotherapy and a lot of reading and introspection and this is by far one of the best resources I have found. This book explains the how and the why behind it, pulls it all together and just nails it. It is me in every page, and I canโt soak it in fast enough.

Thoughtful and useful
This book is an amazing blend of understanding & compassion, cultural analysis, and helpful tools re: binge eating, body image, healing from trauma, and meeting your body's needs. As the authors say in the introduction, this book is a supplement to, not a substitute for, treatment, but it's an incredibly helpful supplement. Just feeling so seen and understood in these pages, and having my years of suffering so compassionately articulated, transformed my recovery.

No diet included
This book has helped me change my life for the better. It finally all makes sense to me self compassion has eluded me all my life but now I can feel it. Not too academic, pitched st just the right level with a sprinkling of data but basically a revolutionary book. Say no to dieting!
