A&A Chess Board - Professional Wooden Chess Board, Tournament Chess Board with Storage Bag (Mahogany W/Notation, 17.25"/44cm)

I'm not easily impressed, but this might be the most impressive item that I've purchased in quite some time, from the board itself to the case to the packaging it was sent in. The board is weighty and smooth, very "rich" looking. The case is well made and padded to protect in transit. The packaging box was lined with thick corrugated cardboard on all the sides and corner protectors. The board itself was wrapped in foam padding with another set of corner protectors that slide off and on easily so that they can be used when it's in the case. I'm just overwhelmed with how nice this is. My grandson recently had received a really nice set of pieces but wanted an equally nice board. I was really happy to find this one that did not include the pieces, had the choice of the markings on it or not, and was tournament grade. This looked like it was going to fit the bill, and it more than does. I read a lot of the reviews before purchasing, and anything negative that I've seen also looks to have been order error and not that of the people sending this out. For example, many said there were no markings, but it showed that they ordered without. Many said that they didn't realize that the pieces did not come with it, but simply reading the description would tell you that it did not come with them. In any case, I feel like the grandson will have this for many years to come, if not a lifetime. We are considering putting a thin coat of polyurethane over it, but that is up to him once he receives this.

I confess I've never purchased an expensive wooden board, and I suspect prices are higher now than they've ever been, both for chess pieces and boards. At the same time, I picked this board up for $63 + tax, and it's a great value at this price point. I got the 21.25 inch (2.25" squares) mahogany and maple board with notation. I included some pictures, partly because they may be helpful to folks that have questions like I had before purchasing. I believe the size of the squares is appropriate for both sets in the pictures. 1) Fischer "Ultimate" pieces, 3rd generation, purchased in 2023, king having a 1.65 inch base. 2) 1950s unweighted Fischer Dubrovnik pieces from Royal Chess Mall, boxwood and mahogany stained, king and queen both with 1.7 inch bases. To me, these sets would both be a little too crowded on a 2 inch square, though the Fischer ultimate pieces could be okay. The color matches my wooden pieces particularly well, and I think the mahogany color option for the board works well for many darker colors of wood pieces. The board itself is nothing special but also good quality. I have just one other wooden board for a smaller size square, and that one is afflicted significantly by poorly matching corners. This board is impressive in that the corners match very well. The bag that is included is also very practical. If I ever spring for a more expensive board, I may invest in a higher quality bag or transport method; however, this is a great match and adds to the value of this product. Overall, I would recommend and find this a good board for both my nicer wooden pieces and good quality plastic pieces.

really nice table

This is a nice heavy-duty wooden board that offers a good presentation. If you take care of it, it should hold up pretty good. It comes with a decent quality storage bag, and is impressively packaged with 4 plastic corners to protect the board, and then 2 for the bag, once the board is inside. There is felt on the bottom to protect the table you set it on, as well as an extra set to add if your wish. The squares are 2.25". The squares are represented as being inlaid Mahogany and Maple wooden veneer squares, and appear to be. Though it has the storage bag, this board will better be left wherever you're going to be setting, rather than setting it aside and moving it constantly, as brushing it against things could damage it. This works best being on display with a nice chess set.

Overall I was disappointed with the quality of the chess board considering it's cost and immediately returned it for a refund. The positives: The chess board arrived well packaged and adequately protected for transit. It has a pleasant matt lacquered finish, and the surface would likely remain in good condition for many years. The carrying bag is of good quality and has extra protection around the edges which is good as the edges would be more likely to sustain damage whilst being transported. Additionally there were also 4 spare felt pads in the bag which was a nice thought as they do wear and may eventually need replacement. The negatives: The squares on the playing surface do not all align exactly with some being prominently out of alignment. The borders around the edge of the playing surface also have a prominent taper on one side and would be very irritating whilst playing as this like the squares being poorly aligned would be continually noticed and once seen is always drawn to mind. The board had several prominent gouges in one corner which is a sign of poor workmanship not damage as this is clearly below the surfaces lacquered finish. There were also some other minor manufacturing defects with marks on the edge of the board and a white glue type mark on the upper surface. Overall however the negatives for me far outweigh the positives especially considering the fairly high price and considered low quality, as such it is not a product I would recommend.

Veámoslo algo más en detalle. 💢 Nos llega en una generosa caja tipo kraft y debidamente protegido en su interior. El tablero viene con su propia funda de transporte de cierre con cremallera, y refuerzos en su perímetro y un asa de transporte. 💢 A diferencia de otros similares, este tablero no se dobla por la mitad con bisagras, es un tablero de una pieza y bastante grande. Su tamaño es de 54 x 54cm, 3cm de grosor y su peso está alrededor de los 4Kg. 💢 Los acabados son de gran calidad y no observo ningún desperfecto, tara o astilla. La superficie es completamente lista y lleva un tratamiento protector para realzar también el brillo. El tamaño de cada uno de los cuadros es de 5.7x5.7cm, de modo que, el juego de piezas adecuado, sería el de tipo King Size. Eso sí, asegúrate que las piezas e ajedrez que uses, lleven un fieltro protector en su parte inferior, pues esto es madera y como tal, se puede rozar y es también susceptible de que se le hagan pequeñas hendiduras en su superficie si las piezas son pesadas. 💢 El tablero es realmente precioso, e incluye notaciones en sus 4 lados, pero este fabricante, ofrece también sus tableros sin ellas. La madera empleada, es natural, y en el caso de este tablero es con incrustaciones de caoba y arce, por lo que el contraste entre unos cuadros y otros es correcto y ampliamente diferenciado. 💢 Por su pante inferior tiene un fieltro para evitar roces, puesto que como ya he mencionado, es bastante pesado. 📌 Quizá me hubiera gustado ver una opción de compra con las piezas a juego incluidas, o como mínimo, que el fabricante tuviera un set de piezas disponibles para comprar aparte. Así pues, deberás afinar bien el modelo de tablero que escojas para que las piezas que tengas queden visualmente bien combinadas con el tablero. ✪ CONCLUSIONES: ⭐ De momento, perfecto. Sí que es cierto, que nunca había oído a este fabricante llamado Alex.H & Abel.C, pero vistas las calidades, puede acabar haciéndose un nombre dentro del mundillo entusiasta y profesional. Con un precio de 92€, no es precisamente de la vertiente económica, pero hay que tener en cuenta las calidades de la madera y el tamaño que tiene. Así pues, me parece del todo recomendable, en serio. Como regalo, puede ser una pasada. 💬 Espero que esta pequeña revisión te haya sido de utilidad. 👀

Très beau plateau pour jouer aux échecs avec annotations. Reçu hier et déjà joué 4 ou 5 fois. Je l'ai choisi pour ses dimensions qui sont très agréables pour jouer. J'ai acheté des pièces assez grandes ce qui rend le jeu encore plus intéressant. Je recommande ce plateau à tous les amateurs d'échecs, novices ou confirmés. Peut même resté sur une table de salon en guise de décoration.
