Good all rounder
Very good all round bit of kit. Having just changed my car I was about to buy yet another bluetooth handsfree kit but decided to go for this instead. I read the reviews and was prepared to take on the few niggles that others had mentioned but to be honest I don't really share any of them. I don't find the display too bright at night, the usb socket being unlit is not a problem for me etc. The device performs well. The ability to store six numbers for a quick dial is what I really wanted and that is perfect. I receive callls more than make them on the move so this fitted my needs perfectly. Voice tags are so hit and miss on android. Music-wise it's great, plenty of eq options and it sounds great. I dumped a load of albums onto a stick for test purposes and it was away no problem and easy to select.I could blether on for ages but needless to say, for me it was money well spent and good value. I doubt you could better it for the price. As one would expect, no fitting problems and the unit was in the car within half an hour or so. I bought an adaptor for existing steering controls and the sony works faultlessly with that.

A solid device but has several annoyances
As you would expect from a Sony radio of this price, the device the on the whole performs very well. The bluetooth phone connection works flawlessly, as does the iPod connection. But there are a few annoying issues...- USB socket is not lit up (unlike on other radios) so plugging in a USB stick at night is very fiddly.- The TA/AF option button is stupid and annoying!- The display animates every time you switch modes, this is also really annoying.- The default blue illumination is very bright, I've set mine to red.- The display does not auto dim at night (unlike other radios).Other points...- Users report radio reception can be poor but I've turned off the 'Regional' setting and found no problems.- Users have reported bugs in the software (e.g. muting with TA on) but I've not found any problems at all.If you can put up with the annoying points listed above, it's an excellent device and I'm pleased with my purchase.

Not as good as MEX-BT3800U !
I own 2 MEX-BT3800U units and bought this new unit because of the mobile phone improvements Sony made. It works great with the phone, you get caller display, phone book access and all that, great stuff !Radio reception is great too.Unfortunately, the previous model just sounds better in my opinion, so I went back to it because music comes first for me.I just cant shape the sound the way I want with this unit, the new EQ just doesn't do it for me. It may has 7 bands instead of 3 but only allows small adjustments (+ or - 6bd) and is cumbersome to use, whereas the 3800's EQ has just 3 bands but is much more effective with adjustments of + or minus 10db. It's also much easier to use with just 3 bands to mess with.Don't get me wrong both units are very good, but if like me, you own a 3800, then you should think twice about upgrading to the 3900, I wish I hadn't.If phone calls are your priority, this is a brilliant unit. It does everything you could ask for in that respectI would recommend using an external microphone for extra clarity during your phone calls, the internal mike is ok but only at low speed. Above 50mph, it picks up too much background noise but that depends on your car sometimes.Hope this helps with your purchase. Good Luck !

Yes! I would recommend this unit!
Excellent bit of kit! All my music is on my phone (20.000 songs) which connects automatically to the stereo via Bluetooth, sound quality is so much better than the stereo that came with my car and you can really blast up the volume. There is a built in equalizer which you can use to make the settings which suit you or you can use the pre set sounds that come with it (these suit me fine although I do thump up the bass now and again). The radio allows you to program the stations to whichever buttons suit you, although i'm not a big radio fan it does search and find stations with ease.I didn't think the remote would get much use but it does make it easier to skip tracks and adjust volume without taking your eyes off the road.I have no complaints with this stereo it was easy to install, works well with my phone (xpiria Z), hands free works well and I don't need to purchase the external mike that you can get,

Great, But Complicated Little Box of Tricks
My VW ICE unit now not working well after 235k miles needed something to replace it. Bought this item based on various reviews and price. Generally, no problems fitting it, though had to swap some wires round after advice from seller. Sound is excellent. Bluetooth works really well with addition of external mic. The only drawback from my point of view is it is very complicated to get the best from all the features, hence my not awarding a fifth star. After several weeks, I am still getting to grips with it. For the technophiles out there, this will probably not present a problem.

Very cool and it comes with a remote control
This is very cool! It comes with a remote control, long-wave, medium-wave and frequency modulation bands. It glows in the dark and it has multiple ways to connect other devices. The only downfall is the fitting instructions and the operating manual - needs to be "A Dummies' Guide to this Radio" as it took me about two weeks of constant searching to find out where all the electrical terminals went. Not a radio for beginners in car (or boat, as I installed it in) radio upgrading.

Great product for just over 100 quid
Very simple to install (into a (51) Ford Focus ) you'll need the extra wiring harness though. The bluetooth connection to my Nokia 5800 worked seemlessly and when you are on a call the callers voice is clear and the caller has no problems hearing what you're saying. Audio stream from my phone works well also. This product has very clear operating instructions so even if your not tech. savvy you'll have no problems with it.
