Oud or not? Oud is worth quite a lot. But the truth? It’s in a knot.
Ah, ignore my silly title. But it’s true! Read my review to understand what I mean….I’ve read some reviews from other users here, and I really appreciate the input from more experienced agarwood enthusiasts. It was interesting to hear one expert mention that this wood might be enhanced—but even if so, it’s done skillfully.I can’t say for sure whether this product is enhanced or not, since I have almost no experience with wood incense besides palo santo. That said, it does smell really good. However, I noticed the listing originally had no reviews, and once reviews started posting, the listing was removed. I do wonder if this was a way to boost their store overall—which, in my personal opinion, sellers have the right to do—but I found this particular listing a little suspicious, especially given the product: oud wood (of course). Need I say more? Anyway, I still have to write my review, of course, to honor Vine guidelines. Let’s get into my analysis of this… oud? Hmm 🤔After some research, I learned that “Quinan wood” is actually a rare type of agarwood. Agarwood itself is highly sought-after and valuable, so I do question why such a precious material would appear on Amazon Vine at all. From what I understand, sellers pay Amazon to list their products on Vine to get reviews. So, logically, if you had rare agarwood, wouldn’t you want to sell it to perfumery houses or specialty buyers instead of paying to list it on a platform where you essentially give it away for free just to get reviews? To me, that seems like one option outweighs the other. Not only that, but as other users mentioned, the product was stored in a very thin, flimsy plastic jar, and indeed it was. Which surprised me. For such a rare, highly sought-after, and expensive perfumery ingredient, I would expect it to be vacuum-packed or at least packaged in something sturdier than such thin plastic. That’s not to take away from the product itself, which honestly smells incredible. So, it’s hard to say—what’s the real story behind this product?

Seems lower quality.
I’m always a bit suspicious of anything like this that comes in a plastic jar and has virtually nothing printed on its label. No instructions, which is unfortunate considering this style of incense will be new to a lot of people state side. The overall quality seems low, and unlikely to be 100% natural. It’s burn time will be greatly affected by the manner you pick to do it.Electric burners will give you the longest burn time. The scent is subtle and balsamic. Each piece in my jar is about 1 1/2” long. There are holes all over each piece and they look and feel like they have been Impregnated with oil of some kind.Over all I would not consider this a good value for what it is.

A Beautiful Alternative to Palo Santo
I've been a longtime fan of Palo Santo wood and burn it on a regular basis. When I discovered this agarwood, I thought I'd give it a try, and I'm so glad I did—it smells absolutely amazing.I use a little torch lighter to heat a piece up until it's good and smoking. The scent is awesome and a really nice change from Palo Santo. I even have a piece on a burn tray in my bathroom to keep it smelling pleasant, and I'll light a piece in my living room every once in a while for aromatherapy.I still love Palo Santo, but this is a wonderful new addition to my routine. I would highly recommend ordering some to give it a try—you just might love it.

Intriguing incense that is fun to experiment with
I've been an incense collector for 20 years, but have never pursued agarwood chips because of the expense. A single gram of high-quality agarwood can cost hundreds of dollars. So when I saw this listing (20 grams for 22 bucks), I jumped.I was suprised at the number and size of these chips. They appear to be hollowed out, which is a good sign. It means that the higher quality (more expensive) wood has been removed, leaving the B-grade chips intact. The surace is slightly waxy, but not perfumed. Unheated, these chips have a faint earthy aroma.I've been experimenting for a day, and the best results I've gotten are when I cut off some chips with a channel knife and put them on my incense warmer at 275-325 degrees. The resulting fragrance reminded me of myrrh resin. A little on the dank side, in a pleasant way. Some fruitiness, but not pronounced. I don't hate it, but I'm not blown away, either. Mysterious.Years ago I bought a $45 box of incense (expensive for me), which I just didn't "get." All I smelled was smoke. I gave it to my son, and he loved it. Like wine, incense is personal, and it's also an education. I will keep trying this agarwood out, heating it in diffent ways, so see what it has to teach me. Twenty grams is a huge amount to play with, and (for me), it's definitely worth the asking price.

Smells comforting.
This is the first time I have bought agar wood incense and am really pleased with the scent. I have the chunks laying out near my dinner table, and they smell amazing when unlit. While lit, it still smells great and comforting, but can sometimes feel too strong. I enjoy the lighter fragrance they give off when just sitting out.
