Product description states this is not compatible with jvc tapes, yet you say it is...... i have several jvc vhs-c tapes to convert to dvd. so ???

JVC branbded tapes will get jammed in the mechanism. They are fractionally larger.All other VHS-C tapes are OK

No this won't work for VCR tapes, only for VHS-C cassettes.

I notice that one item sold by amazon does not need batteries and this one needs one. why is that? why necessary to be motorized. thank you

It needs the power to load your smaller tape into this, I hope this helped, it only uses 1 AA battery and it seems to work pretty good.
