I have a 1gb switch internally and purchased this owc external 10gb adapter. my speeds still are not good. do i need to bypass the internal 1gb?

Not sure what you are asking exactly but if you connect a water hose to a fire hydrant, it will only flow at the volume of the water hose... The full path should be 10gb.

If connected directly to a host the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, bus-power is insufficient.
