I’ve gone through phases of doing gel nails, and while they look amazing, I got tired of the upkeep. Constantly soaking sets off or using a drill on my nails just started to feel like more work than it was worth. I wanted something easier to manage that didn’t feel damaging, and honestly this reminded me that sometimes the old ways really are the best ways.Sally Hansen Hard As Nails has been such a solid return to basics for me. My nails feel noticeably stronger, I’ve had way less peeling and breaking, and I don’t feel like I’m putting my nails through a whole process just to keep them looking nice. It’s simple, effective, and actually delivers on what it promises.I use it as a base coat under my regular nail polish and it makes everything go on smoother and last longer. I also paint the underside of my nails like it suggests on the bottle, and I do think it adds that extra bit of strength and protection. I usually do two coats, and sometimes three if I have the time or patience. I keep my coats very thin, though, and I’d definitely recommend doing the same because it dries better and looks smoother overall.It dries quickly, layers well, and even on its own gives a clean, healthy shine. One of my favorite unexpected parts is how nostalgic it feels. Using regular nail polish again makes me feel like a kid in the best way, just sitting there painting my nails without all the extra steps or tools. It’s low effort, a little fun, and still gives me results I’m really happy with.If you’re burnt out on gel or just want something easy that actually helps your nails instead of stressing them out, this is such a great go-to. It’s affordable, reliable, and has definitely earned a permanent spot in my routine.

The product is wonderful for growing your nails and keeping them maintained but it takes ages to dry making it hard to layer coats

I just got my builder gel nails off and my nails are paper thin, they quite literally can bend at a 180° angle backwards if I tried and rip/tear extremely easily. Over the last month or so I’ve been trying a few different nail strengtheners/regular polishes that last a day or two before my nails inevitably bend causing my polish to chip/peel off. I know this stuff has been around for years but I assumed some of the newer stuff was better, but I decided to give it a try because I’m desperate to have nails that I can paint or at least have a strengthening clear coat on without them breaking off into a nub. My first impression when I put two coats of it on my bare nail was that it felt noticeably hard and made my nails much more stiff/not bendy. I added some nail polish on top and was prepared to have to redo them in a day, but I am going on 5 days now without a single chip at all!!!! I am a nurse and I worked 3 out of the 5 days I’ve had this on, using my nails to open stuff, washing my hands constantly, accidentally banging my nails into stuff, and these bad boys are still intact without a single chip. I can’t speak on how this stuff works to heal damaged nails as I just started using it, but two coats absolutely will add some strength to your nails and prevent polish chipping. I’ll definitely be using this stuff for the foreseeable future!
