Quality Gyokuro, smooth and deep but expensive.
I wanted to try a different type of green tea and gyokuro is definitely a unique experience. It has a smoother texture and a deeper, more umami-rich taste compared to sencha. It also lacks the roasted notes of something like hojicha and is much more delicate than matcha. If you're used to black tea, this will feel much lighter on the palette with a lingering unami goodness.I brewed it a bit hotter (~80–85°C, about 5 mins after boiling) for around 2 minutes, which brought out a mild bitterness that I actually like. If you prefer a sweeter, umami-heavy brew with a more vibrant green colour, I’d recommend using lower temps (around 60–70°C) and steeping for about 2 minutes, as per the package instructions. The difference is noticeable, and I usually go for a lighter brew on the second infusion. Two infusions seem to be the sweet spot before the flavour fades. The dry leaves are a deep, dark green and look high quality. Mine says it was harvested in May 2024, so not the absolute freshest, but it still smells great, there’s that light seaweed aroma when you open the bag and after brewing. It's pricey, naturally more than sencha, gyokuro is more like a sip and appreciates type of experience, rather than casual drinking (being near £13 for 40g and all). If you want to try a high-end green tea experience, it's worth giving a go.

Great Taste
High Quality. Great Taste. Add Lime/Lemon juice or even ginger for a healthy tonic.

Lovely tea
I'm new to drinking tea this way, however I've always liked green tea when I go for sushi. This is lovely but seems expensive for how much you get.
