1TB NVMe SSD for MacBook - PCIe Gen3.0x4 Internal SSD, Up to 2100MB/s, Compatible with MacBook Air/Pro 2013-2017, Mac Mini 2014, iMac 2012-2018, Mac Pro 2013 - ON900A

My SSD was failing on my Macbook Air A1465 with constant crashing and freezes where a hard power off sometimes worked. Replacing it was quite simple with the included screwdrivers but do be careful the order they come out and try not to lose them! Then came the part where you had to initialise the disk via Disk Utility. No matter what I tried including the recommended manual steps and several re-seating of the drive, the Macbook still refused to see the new drive. Which left me with the nuclear option of downloading and booting from USB - also in the manual so big plus for the manufacturer for producing a relatively decent booklet. Then the fun starts and you discover that to download Big Sur (which is was the latest version for A1465) you have to use the App Store preferably on a Mac with the same O/S version. I have discovered you can download it from the Internet Archive but that is a few more involved steps. I didn't have another Mac so fortunately the original SSD did last long enough to download and create a bootable usb version - instructions are on the apple website. That went flawlessly and booting from USB saw the new disk and from then on, it just went smoothly. Restoring from Time Machine worked exceptionally well so now I have 10 year old MacBook Air with a new lease of life, more storage and it even feels faster now! Worth the time and effort to restore a decent laptop (for me!) at a relatively low cost.

Works on my Mac Pro 5,1, after initialising the drive I was able to install OSX with no problems. Seems to work well with no slowdown so far. Is a slot in replacement for the old drive. As a 3D SSD it’s ok for a home system, wouldn’t put it in a server. Doesn’t seem to run hot, not missed a beat.

EDIT: This SSD worked as expected ! Found out that my computer came with extra adaptor that was added by the previous owner thus we were confused about why the pins don't fit. The screwdrivers worked well, the packaging was reasonable to open, and the install process appears easy. --- Note: In case you have this pin issue, you'll need to remove the adaptor in your laptop for this to fit correctly.

Mac Pro does not recognise the drive

Good product, good delivery time. Fortunately read reviews before purchase and fitting and made a bootable installer on a USB stick. This was either going to be plug and play as such or I’d have issues like other purchasers! Mine was the latter, didn’t recognise the drive and although trying usb stick and my Time Machine backups I was not having any success, in the end I tried internet recovery and left it overnight to to what happened! It did finally recover and recognise the drive but took multiple attempts to re install Catalina and finally my Time Machine backup and ended up all good. I’m no computer whizz so can’t explain exactly how I got it to recognise the drive, but am happy I’ve now got 1tb storage. Also I had two drives created Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD -Data, had to rename the data one to enable Time Machine backups. My laptop was MacBook Pro A1502 early 2015, hope this helps. I think as other people have said once working seems good but of kit, but be prepared to be patient!
