Freenove LCD Starter Kit for Raspberry Pi 5 4 B 3 Zero 2 W (NOT Included)

I found the directions easy to follow, and created my first blinking LED project in a few minutes.

I haven't gotten around to using all of the components yet, just the push button switches, red LEDs, resistors, jumpers, and ribbon cable. The whole reason for getting this kit is the breadboard and GPIO extension board. The kit came with the extension board mounted to the wrong end of the breadbread board. That takes a bit of back and forth with a small screwdriver to gently pry it out, and then press it in at the other end that starts with printed row number 1. Getting the jumper wires or component leads into the breadboard holes is tough until you figure out the trick of going in at a steep angle. Those are somewhat easy to deal with but the big issue I have with the breadboard is that the printed numbering is off. Rows 1 and 5 are fine. Row "10" is actually on row 9, and all of the subsequent rows are offset by one because of that. That makes following project plans/tutorials risky if you're not paying more attention than you should have to.

worst part is cheap thin wires and online only manual is written for different chips on the lcd backpack. also they dont explain that you must install the programming environments first. you have to decipher what you have first and then you can edit their code so you can use it. also I only bought it for the oscilloscope circuit. I wish I didn't because there is no documentation on using it. only instruction on how to build it and test with a pot, no current or voltage or frequency limitations listed at all. they could have thrown in a cheap ($0.05) 555 timer chip to read with the scope. the bread board and the lcd backpack is ok. ill give it that. but the rest leaves something to be desired. it showed me that I really do get what I pay for. i give a 2 star rating because this does not compare to all the other kits out there. there does not seem to be much value.

The Freenove LCD 1602 Starter Kit for Raspberry Pi looks great. I'll be ordering about a dozen more for a college-level Computer Science course on Embedded Processors that I'll be teaching this Fall.

Lチカ！がやりたい！とおもって、ledの入っているものをさがしてました。すでにブレッドボードやサーボを購入し動作させていため、とりあえず安いものを。 が、GPIO延長ボードか思った以上に便利で、これとledだけで十分元がとれたと感じました。 他の方は梱包が…というコメントもありましたが、私のは大丈夫でした。

Kit is ok, but clearly uses cheap components. In particular the breadboard is very poor: although the pack of wires work in most holes, some holes are very loose making them basically unusable except for the thick pin components like buttons or potentiometers. The resistors have such thin wires that they only make connection on the 2 power rails top and bottom, in the main area, they are useless, meaning I had to order additional 5% 1/4W resistors that have thicker wires before I could start using my kit. The Pi OI breakout board was shipped with the device plugged in to the breadboard is the wrong position meaning that 4 holes were accessible on one side and only 2 on the other side. Of course I was able to re-position it myself but that's not the point. It's a difficult component to move without risk of damaging one or more pins, so having to do so unnecessarily is annoying. The grey ribbon cable for the breakout board was folded so hard and tight in half that I don't dare to straighten it out without risk of snapping the wires inside, so that will likely need to be replaced soon too. Finally, for anyone new to this subject, don't reply on the tutorial that they advertise in the card in the box: the website is dead and for sale.

This brilliant kit has really helped me get to grips with my raspberry pi and electronics. It's great fun to use and the instructions are really easy to follow. Great value kit that will keep you entertained for some time.
