Does it work with tap water?

Yes, we used tap water and it was completely fine. Clean every few months was fine.

Does this use UV light to kill bacteria before turning to mist?

Its the warm mist that kills bacteria. The cool mist doesn't.

Im.confused on what replacement filters are needed?

I don’t think there are any filters to replace, never changed one in my unit. There is a tiny felt pad in a draw left side that you can add aromatherapy oils, so that might be what you are thinking about. If you don’t use these oils it’s not in use. I use soft water (filtered) so there is no lime scale building up, but keep looking for filters as I might have missed the point.

My unit only seems to produce mist when Automode ia selected and the percentage can get as high as 87% is this normal?

No, mine did same and I sent it back. It's as if the humidity sensor was malfunctioned and unit continued way past it's set point. The manual states 68% max for auto mode so defo a fault. However just check unit is not on floor or next to a wall as this can give erroneous humidity values due to sensor being saturated by the close proximity humidy being created. I put my unit on a table and pointed steam away from sensor on side of unit but it still wasn't working correctly. Logic just wasn't right so I returned. Came into our baby's roomnone morning and room was absolutely soaked on auto mode. Bed sheets windows dripping. Just was not right.
