Dressed To Kill

One of the most remarkable achievements in the whole career of the hottest band in the world
In 1974 KISS released two LPs (self-titled album and "Hotter than hell"). The fans were more enthusiastic about both records than producers and managers. For example, Neil Bogart - Casablanca Records's President was dissatisfied with those band's achievements. In his view none of the songs from "KISS" and "Hotter than hell" turned out to be a great hit to him. As he demanded more, he encouraged KISS to issue their third LP. He was also certain that KISS would be able to create a few, new big hits for radio. So, the band came back to New York City in February, 1975. The musicians spent just a month on the new project. The third LP was entitled "Dressed to kill". The title of this album makes us think of the role played by our appearance. It may have both positive and negative effects on our relationships with other people."Dressed to kill" came out on March 19, 1975. Two songs of this LP: "She" and "Love her all I can" were recorded by Gene Simmons, Steve Coronel and Paul Stanley for WICKED LESTER. The remaining eight tracks had not been known to the fans before. There was no doubt about it. "Dressed to kill" seemed to prove that the band was on the right track to fame and glory. This album surely contributed to the formation of the new trend in hard rock - glam, shock rock. The fans of that genre longed for the time when this record would hit the US stores. And when the LP was delivered at their homes they might have been more happier than ever with it."Dressed to kill" was the collaborative production by Neil Bogart and KISS.The last song "Rock and roll all nite" is one of the most popular hits. It was composed by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons who established KISS. But, in my estimation this album is not famous just for this one song. Much more songs must be considered as admirable and memorable.First, the songs by Paul Stanley: "Room service", "C'mon and love me", "Anything for my baby", "Love her all I can" have become legendary.Second, the only song written by Ace Frehley ("Getaway") is one of the best achievements in Spaceman's career. Surprisingly, Peter Criss (Catman) also lent his voice to it.Third, Gene Simmons supplied the album with two very good pieces of hard rock: "Ladies in waiting" and "Two timer". We should also focus our attention on "Rock bottom" since it might be regarded as a pure pearl by every fan of hard rock. The song was written by Paul Stanley and Ace Frehley. The last but not least peculiar aspect in this review of "Dressed to kill" concerns the cover. It provides us with special visual effect. The cover displays the positive image of the band (the front side) as well as negative (the reverse side). The lyrics of "Dressed to kill" deal with the following topics:- love, infidelity, deception ("Two timer", "She", "Rock bottom");- seduction, sex addiction ("C'mon and love me", "Room service");- falling in love ("Love her all I can", "Anything for my baby");- the things that make us physically, socially and mentally attractive ("Ladies in waiting");- loneliness ("Getaway");- having fun, the impact of rock and roll music on popular culture ("Rock and roll all nite").To sum up, "Dressed to kill" is one of my favourite albums by KISS.
