These are the (open) earbuds you're looking for
Best for: ☐ Audiophiles ☐ Stage monitoring ☑ Active wearers who need situational awareness ☑ Casual listening ☑ Zoom calls Best features: ☑ Comfortable: Keep them in your ears for all-day use ☑ Staying put: They stay in your ears and will not dislodge accidentally. Try shaking your head really hard- they'll stay on. ☑ Open ear design: Ability to listen to your music and your surroundings ☑ Versatility: Handoff between two paired devices ☑ Untethered from your charging case: Long battery life When I was looking for earphones, I wanted no-hassle, workhorse ones that didn't fail on me, that I didn't mind keeping in my ears, that let me hear my surroundings, and that didn't break the bank. Then when I saw Flossy Carter's glowing YouTube review, I knew I had to try them. I'm so glad I did. I keep them in when riding my bike so I can hear traffic around me. I wear them around the house so I don't feel isolated from my spouse, my dog, or my family. I seamlessly switch from Zoom calls to my music, to YouTube, to podcasts between my Macbook and my S24 Ultra. They're nearly always in my ears and the only time I remember they're there is when I accidentally brush my hair and one goes flying (but that's a me problem). Ok, so how do these stack up to other earbuds? They work, but they won't give you the same audio fidelity as dedicated listening sets. Then again, if you want audiophile open style headphones, you're looking in the wrong place (and at the wrong price point). I have wired Shure E215s for high-level audio with isolation, and are like the opposite of these Shokz. I have so many bluetooth earbuds for general use and that always go missing. BONUS: At the time (near launch), Shokz was offering a free protective silicone covering for the charging case. I use it am really glad I have it, as it gives me the ability to carry my earbuds in the same pocket as my earbuds. These are my most used set of earbuds and i quickly growing to be my favorite pair. Get them. You won't regret it.

Love these earbuds!
Really pleasantly surprised by how much I love these! Backstory: I was a Samsung girlie for a long time, and really loved my Galaxy FE buds. Unfortunately the left earbud stopped working within a year of getting them (luckily they were under warranty and I got it replaced/fixed, but then the left one stopped working AGAIN within another 6 months, and the right one about two months after that. Sigh). But honestly, I loved them enough that I was going to just get them again and hope for the best... that is, until I read the reviews and saw SO many people complaining about how quickly they stopped working. So I decided I didn't want to risk it and went on the hunt for something different. I exhaustively read lots of reviews on several different earbuds, and was honestly getting discouraged until I read the reviews on these and saw that they were... gasp... actually mostly positive! I was intrigued. Then I remembered that a friend had highly recommended this brand, but the bone conducting headset (Open Run Pro2). I knew I would rather have individual earbuds vs something that wrapped around the back of my head, so the Open Dots seemed like they might be a better fit for my needs. I was skeptical that they would be too big and clunky, and that I would miss the noise cancelling option of my old ear buds. But to my surprise, I've really enjoyed them and think that I'm a convert now! They were super easy to set up and connect to my phone (had to download an app to tweak settings, but that was super simple too). They are comfortable and light despite being larger than your average bud. They also feel quite secure on my ear, and I'm not really worried about them falling off. I wear glasses and they don't get in the way at all (which I had worried about with the Open Run Pro 2 headset). I like that the buds are interchangeable (they both work in both ears). The sound is really very good for being "open air" style, enough so that I don't miss the noise canceling as much as I thought I would. Sometimes in extra loud situations (like someone talking loudly near you), it's annoying not to have, but for the most part it hasn't been a deal breaker for me. I actually kind of enjoy being able to hear the ambient noises of my surroundings more than I thought I would. When I have them paused, I can hear everything around me, including if someone needs to talk to me (aka I don't have to take the earbud out of my ear in order to hear them, which is really nice). I got the pink ones, and I really like the color... the shiny part is like a rose gold, and the matte part is more like a dusty rose color (so it feels more classy, and not punch you in the face pink). They also have a 2 year manufacturers warranty, which I think is awesome compared to the single year that most companies offer. Cons: - They aren't the most responsive to the double tapping. Shokz did release a firmware update to make them MORE sensitive, but then it kind of toes the line of being TOO sensitive/responsive, so I currently have that option turned off. It still works, it just usually takes a couple of intentional double tap tries. Pinching the battery part on the back of the ear works more reliably to pause/play, but I'm just so used to the double tap from my old set that I just do it instinctually. - The notification noises are quite loud. For awhile, I was having an issue when I had it paired to both my phone and my tablet, that when I walked in and out of range from the tablet while listening to music on my phone, it would make an unnecessarily loud notification noise in my ear as it disconnected/reconnected each time. I finally had to unpair it from my tablet altogether because it was driving me crazy. If that notification noise could be adjusted (or at least just lowered), that would be a huge improvement! Overall, I'm very happy with these and I'm glad I took the chance on them!! Here's hoping they last longer than my Galaxy FEs did!

Stays in place, super comfortable, and perfect for all-day wear
I’ve tried a lot of headphones, including in-ear earbuds and over-the-head styles, and these are by far the most convenient for me. I have big, curly hair, and over-the-head headphones never sit right. I’m constantly adjusting them depending on how my hair falls, especially at the gym. With these, I don’t have to worry about that at all. Also, random but real, I have a big smile, and I’ve noticed with my in-ear earbuds that when I smile or my cheeks lift, they actually start to come out of my ears. That doesn’t happen with these at all. They stay in place, even when I’m moving around a lot. They’re very lightweight and comfortable. I wore them all day at work, moving around, and even tossing my head a bit, and they stayed secure. They connect easily to both my phone and my laptop, which makes them really versatile. I’ve used them for meetings, audiobooks, videos, and music, and everything sounds clear. People could also hear me clearly on calls. I also like that I can still hear what’s going on around me since they don’t sit inside your ear. The design is really nice too. The earbuds are sleek, and the case has a mix of matte and shiny black that looks really good. Battery life has been great so far. I charged them when I first got them and have used them for over 10 hours without needing to recharge. Last time I checked, one of the earbuds was still around 70 percent. Overall, I love these. They’re comfortable, practical, stay in place, and work really well for both everyday use and work.

Apple Ecosystem User Review
I am writing this review as someone who uses the Apple ecosystem, and I will start with the biggest drawback in that regard and then move to all the good things. I did have the swimming SHOKS that do not have bluetooth before for the pool and they are good at what they are designed for. Drawback on Apple devices: Compared to the Beats Fit Pro (and other Beats/Apple headphones that use Apple's H1 chips), these headphones suck at transferring between devices. When you use the apple ecosystem and you use headphones with Apple chips, the headphones automatically and seamlessly transfer between devices with little to no effort. Listening to music on your computer and answer a call on your iphone? Apple-chip headphones will pause your music and switch to your phone with no action on your part. The SHOKZ headphones don't even come close. you have to manually connect in the bluetooth menu and in some instances you have to disconnect from one device before you connect to another. I find this a bit annoying coming from headphones that are totally vertically integrated into Apple. However, I knew going in that would be the reality, and that is about the only thing I don't love. I think the beats do have better bass if you are really into that. Positive Things: * they are very comfortable. With the beats fit pro, wearing them all day the wingtips do put pressure on your ear to stay put and I do notice it and eventually want to take them out to give my ear a rest. These I can wear literally all day and not have any of that sensation. * since they don't cancel or block noise, I can actually hear myself when talking with people so I don't end up inadvertently talking really loud like I tend to when I have noise cancelling headphones in and I much prefer this around the office. * They have more on-device control than the beats fit pro. on the beats you have to pick between controlling pause/play and next or controlling volume. I am still getting used to the gestures, they are not as snappy reactive as the beats, and I actually did have to look at the manual, but these allow you to control all of them without picking one or the other which I like. * they seem mildly magnetic? like if I take them out and put them in my pocket they stick together. The beats don't do this and I really like it. makes keeping track of them in a pocket much easier. * I wear blue-light glasses at work and they do not interfere with them * I feel I could wear these horseback riding on low volume and be safe because you have enough awareness to hear your surroundings. * I like that they don't have earbud tips that can come off. * The whole profile of the case, etc. is smaller than that of the beats fit pro which I like and I feel like the case is more durable and less likely to come open accidentally. * I have used them on runs and they stay put. * Even considering "transparency" mode on the beats, my spatial awareness in these is much better and I think these will be much better for biking commutes. * I have not had any issues with people understanding me on calls both in office or walking outside on the street on my phone. I have not had issues with battery life so far. * I don't make a habit of sleeping with headphones but they don't jam into your ear if you wanted to listen to an audiobook and put your head on your pillow on the side the way in-ear buds to. * I like that running errands I don't have to take them out or mess with them to change modes to hear people and not be rude. * Running in them: They stayed put pretty well and didn't have any issues with them coming off. I think I might still prefer the beats fit pro especially for workouts just volume-wise and I am not as worried about hearing every street noise, but it's kind of a toss-up. I am keeping these and will use them alongside my beats fit pro. I am so far pretty impressed on the whole.

Finally some wireless buds that work well for cycling?
I have been looking for ear buds for cycling that allow me to still hear my surroundings to some degree. My go to for years were wired Apple or Google buds, both of which sounded just okay, but by not sealing the ear canal I could still hear my surroundings. I have tried wireless buds that seal the ear canal, but have the hear through mode. The problem with those is when riding my road bike they pick up and amplify the wind noise so much as to make them useless. I also tried Sony open ear buds, but I lost one of those when it fell out of my ear after just a couple rides. I have now been using these for months, on dozens of road rides. Overall, they work really sound. Sound quality is surprisingly good, and the clip solidly to the ear so I have no concerns about them falling off and getting lost. The downside is that they aren't quite loud enough, once you get over about 20 mph the wind noise overwhelms the audio. Great on climbs, useless on descents, and just okay on the flats. The other problem is if you take a call you probably need to stop, because the wind noise makes it so the other person on the call can't hear you talk. I give these four stars, because in spite of the flaws for road cycling, I plan to keep using them because they work well enough for that. If you use them for mountain biking they would probably work really well. And if you use them for running or other athletic training, they will be excellent.

Best earbuds ever made
I currently have both the OpenDot ONE. I have had several different Shokz brand headphones, starting with the original bone conduction headphones. I bought my first pair about 9 years ago. I work construction pipefitter by trade. And for what I used them for they were great. As time goes I have moved inside our company, now no longer “ on my tools”, now I seem to spend a large amount of time either on the phone or emailing someone. Every pair I have had were very comfortable, my only complaint has been with the magnetic chargers, where they are exposed, it seems like it gets “gummed up” with fine metal dust, and is very hard to keep clean, for me. The two newest I have both have cases. And are waterproof, I use them for work, take them to my residence, charge them for a short time (10-20 minutes) then go work out, and I sweat pretty bad during my workouts. They do not slip or fall off. The outside material is a smooth silicone. That feels very nice. They seem to be made from quality materials all around. Connected super quick to my iPhone. If you are buying these get the Shokz app it is worth it. They are not particularly loud as they are outside the ear, but they are loud enough to drown out everything in a planet fitness, loud enough I can carry on a conversation on the phone with my window partially down while driving. They are small, not much bigger than EarPods. They do NOT have active noise cancelling, or any sort of noise cancellation. They are very discreet I can listen to music and sitting next to me no one can hear what I am listening to. So far ALL Shokz devices have been very compatible with every device that I have paired them with. As for range I have been surprised actually I know Bluetooth is only a short distance carrier wave, but these seem to have a in excess of 30 foot range. I have suggested these to other people, I will suggest them in the future, and when these die I will most likely buy again.

Love these! Much better than OpenRun
Comfortable, secure, connected easier than my openrun did, the battery seems to last longer and I love that the case will charge them up whenever I’m not using them. Wireless charging works just fine and the various tap/squeeze functions seem to work just fine though I haven’t used them much. Bought during Prime days so they were on sale, though honestly, I’ll pay full price if I ever need a new pair! I bought a case cover since it felt slick and I worried I’d scratch or otherwise damage it, but the headphones themselves seem plenty durable. Sound quality is great and I love that these don’t interfere with my ear piercings, sunglasses, or hairstyles! And they are comfortable for extended wear.

Checks a lot of boxes, has some issues that *should* be fixable with updates
So after developing some excessive ear wax build-up from keeping at least one of my AirPods Pro in for pretty much the entire day (while just working from my home where I didn't even need noise cancellation) I decided to take a deep look into the world of open-ear headphones. I watched dozens of videos (some a few times), read all the reviews, and while none of the ones I saw checked *all* of my boxes, the Shockz OpenDots One came the closest, so rather than buying a cheap pair I'd eventually want to upgrade and make e-waste, I decided to take the plunge and ordered the Shockz. While the feel took a day or two to get used to, once I settled on my preferred positioning of them, these quickly became the the best feeling earbuds of any type I can ever recall wearing. So back to my list of qualifications, here's what I was looking for: ✔︎ Auto play/pause ✔︎ Good (enough) sound quality - For open ear headphones, these exceeded my expectations, but of course the from factor is just never going to reach the peak of what you'd get out of in/over ear headphones ✔︎ Good battery life - Even as an all day wearer, after a month I have yet to get to "low battery" on these—these don't just have good battery life, they have fantastic battery life ✔︎ Wireless charging case ✔︎ Pocketable case - Some of the other open-ear headphones have massive cases, and this ones fully rounded design fits in my pocket even better than the AirPods Pro 2 case ✘ Mono-audio when only using one headphone Now I'm sure Apple is making the mono-audio thing more difficult, but from my research, the Sony LinkBuds Clip do have this feature, so it doesn't seem like its impossible. Add that to the fact that the Shockz have a great feature that switches channels automatically based on which ear you put the buds in (they are identical, so they can be switched to either ear at will) this feature just seems like an obvious add. Apple (again I know they have more system access to do some of these things) has been doing this since literally the first AirPods—that's actually what sold me on them initially after being one of those people who'd have a single wired "EarPod" in previously. I get that the open-design allows you to keep both in in more situations, but it just seems like an easy win. That is truly my only "feature" complaint with these things, and I ultimately set up a Shortcut to turn mono-audio on whenever I connect to the Shockz, as I do mostly use them for podcasts anyway, but does downgrade the music experience. Now for the other things that I've run into after using them—both of which strangely seems to have gotten worse over time (I wouldn't be making this comment if I didn't notice a pretty clear pattern): Issue 1: The buds can sometimes "lose sync" with each-other just slightly, causing the sound to play slightly ahead in one bud than the other. I only notice this after wearing them for a few hours, and once it happens, it does correct itself in a few seconds (usually), but also once it happens, it seems to happen again every 15 or so minutes unless you put the buds back in their case, close it for a few seconds, and then put them back in. I wouldn't say this always happens after a few hours of use, but probably 2-3 times/week I have the issue of this happening repeatedly until I re-connect them by putting them in the case. Issue 2: The tap controls. I actually prefer to the AirPods pinching controls (the original AirPods had tap controls as well). These started out working great from my experience, but then, after about a month, I've noticed them becoming less sensitive—the muscle memory I'd already built up to control them just wasn't doing it! I've even had the "increased sensitivity" setting on the entire time, and only had one false trigger. Controls like this need to be reliable or you just won't use them. Also, I can't say enough to establish a pattern, but I've had multiple times recently where I've tapped them, heard the feedback sound as if the play/pause control was triggered, and nothing happened! We can maybe attribute the last one to my phone, but the controls not triggering at all is all on Shockz. Overall, I really do love these things and only find myself using my AirPods when I'm on the train or somewhere that actually needs noise-cancellation. The issues I mentioned I hope can be fixed with software updates. The look does take some getting used to—but then again, when I first bought the original AirPods, those looked a bit weird too. Open-ear headphones are gaining steam, and I'm more than confident that the look will be a non-issue in no time. To sum it all up: These have become my daily drivers despite their (few) issues, and if Shockz drops the OpenDots 2 with all of my issues addressed, I'd seriously consider upgrading. And if Shockz does fix these issues with an update, I promise I will come back and update this review to a 5/5.

Great open-ear headphones with excellent comfort
I’m really impressed with the SHOKZ OpenDots One , they’re lightweight, secure, and comfortable even during long wear. The open-ear design lets me stay aware of my surroundings while still enjoying clear, rich sound . The Bluetooth connection is stable, the mic picks up voice well, and the water resistance gives extra peace of mind for workouts or rainy days. Battery life is excellent too , I easily get close to the advertised 40 hours. Highly recommended if you want quality audio without blocking out the world!
