Very short eye relief!
First impressions on Vortex Sonora HD 1800...So, this is my first ever range finder. I own other Vortex products and am generally satisfied with them. I like their warranty and have been in touch with customer service in the past who treated me well.I was comparing this Vortex Sonora HD 1800 to the Sig Sauer Kilo 2800, and I like Sig Sauer, they have plenty of my money! But the Kilo 2800 although only $10 more had the BDX system which looks super cool, but the scopes required to use that are a little expensive, and the Vortex had a tripod mount I thought would be nice to have where Sig didn't.So... unpacked the Vortex Sonora HD 1800 and immediately found it difficult to see anything, I had to take off my glasses and eventually pretty much had it "in my eye". I got it into focus more or less then checked the web for eye relief... hum only 15mm (nothing and I had not paid attention to this detail), so I looked at the eye relief for the Sig... hum... says 17mm so also pretty much equivalent to zero in my book.I then installed the battery in the Vortex (now I have not yet read the instructions, just pushing buttons) got it turned on and saw the readings, but they were blurry... put readings in focus and image / target is blurry.I do have myopia and astigmatism so it may well be me but keep this in mind if you suffer similar issues. In the end I am going to keep this, it is better than walking around with a tape measure. I primarily purchased it to use in conjunction with a laser bore sighter and get the distance to my target. That is all. Good luck and a shout out to the lucky people with good eyesight!
