Disappointed
This may have been a case of a publisher wanting another book from an author who had already given us everything in her first one. Buy Tauchid's first book, "The New Acrylics" 2005, not this one which is a poor cousin to it. Aside from some nice photos of her demonstration pieces, this book offers nothing that you won't already know if you've been working with acrylics for awhile and have read the information provided in art supply catalogs. It is obvious that they were struggling for text because everything is covered twice, once on the white pages and again on the blah-looking beige pages in a Q & A format. Each chapter begins with an interesting list of what will be covered, but you end up disappointed because she just barely mentions each topic. There was so much that I was wanting to know more about but instead the space gets used for flowery prose and to repeatedly duplicate information in two or three different locations. Also, her first book is lush whereas this one has a recycled feel to it. On the plus side, fun photos, good product usage charts, and lots of great information for beginners.

Fabulous!
I was hugely ignorant about acrylic paints and mediums. But having fun glueingthings down to other things using gel medium. Then I read this book and mylife has totally changed! I'm trying everything with a new sense of "this is howthis works"--a much better perspecptive than "what IS all this stuff"!!!

extremely useful reference book for the artist
This is truly a must book for the working artist that gives them updated information on acrylic paints. It also informs you about the acrylic mediums, the working grounds(surfaces) that acrylic paint can be applied to and if any problems. This book is easy to navigate getting answers to your questions quickly with well organized layout sheets.

FOR EVERYBODY
I've been painting in acrylics for 30 years, and I found this book quite fascinating - and very enlightening. Unlike watercolours and oils (if you exclude the advance to water-based oils) acrylics continue to advance technologically day by day, and it pays to know what is going on before you are entirely left behind...This is very much NOT a "how to paint" book. It's written by a technical development employee of a very large transatlantic paint manufacturer, and although presented in an enjoyably light, easy-to-read style, is often couched in scientific terms. This should not put you off. A key to success in any kind of art is "know your medium", and this book, along with its predecessor, will tell you everything you want to know about acrylics - and if you thought that perhaps wasn't all that much, then, like me, you'd be quite wrong. It's worth reading even by painters who currently don't use acrylics, or at least those with an enquiring and expanding mind. The paintings are mostly abstract or "constructions", but this seems to be largely because it's the easiest way to rapidly, and graphically, demonstrate the increasingly astounding properties of acrylics and huge variety of often fun-filled ways in which they can be employed. Figurative painters (such as me) have barely scratched the surface of this 21st century medium, if you'll forgive the metaphor...

New Acrylics: Essential Sourcebook.
This is the follow-up volume to Tauchid`s excellent The New Acrylics: Complete Guide to the New Generation of Acrylic Paints and like that book, it is presented in a well-illustrated, unfussy and straight-forward style. This volume delves deeper into the more technical aspects of the uses and techniques of acrylics providing thoroughly useful information on the materials – pigments, paint characteristics, mediums and additives, suitable grounds and preparations, etc., in short this is the “go to” reference work for up-to-date information on acrylics. There is even useful troubleshooting advice on salvaging paint, conservation and compatibility with other media.A goldmine of information for the acrylic user regardless of experience, this should be on your studio bookshelf; a very useful handbook indeed.
