CTEK Time To Go Battery Charger Kit

I bought this to replace a much slower charger, and I’m glad I did. I’ve used it on a 2015 Porsche Boxster that suffers from some kind of parasitic battery drain, and have completed around four charging sessions so far. It has charged my battery from low (though not completely flat) to full in under six hours. Connecting the eyelets to the battery terminals was straightforward, although it’s worth noting that if your car has a battery monitoring sensor (as many modern cars do), you should avoid connecting the eyelet across both battery terminals. Instead, connect the negative lead to a suitable chassis earth so the car correctly detects that the battery is being charged. The Time To Go display isn’t just a gimmick – it provides genuinely useful information on the progress of the charge. Combined with the included traffic light indicator eyelet, it’s easy to get a good idea of the battery’s condition before deciding whether it needs charging. Out of curiosity I connected the charger to a smart plug to monitor its power consumption. It initially delivered up to around 70 W before gradually tapering the output as the battery approached full charge, eventually dropping to around 16 W. This is exactly what you’d expect from a quality smart charger and gives confidence that the battery is being charged safely rather than simply being fed a constant current. The build quality feels excellent. The kit also represents good value, including the traffic light eyelet, a silicone bumper to protect your paintwork, and a nice storage case with handle to keep everything tidy when not in use. One thing to be aware of is that the supplied eyelet lead fits M8 battery terminal bolts. The eyelet is NOT the M6 eyelet lead. It is better to have the larger M8 vs the M6 - the top of the bolt will still make the connection. But if the eyelet was too small to begin with, you'd have problems with the diameter of the bolt. My only minor criticism is that I’d like the cable between the charger and the connector to be a little longer. It isn’t quite long enough to reach comfortably over the bonnet to the ground, so I tend to rest the charger on the plastic trim below the windscreen instead. Once charging is complete, the charger automatically switches into CARE mode, making it suitable for long-term maintenance charging if your vehicle is in storage or you simply want to keep the battery topped up. The eyelet connector is also well sealed against dust and water ingress, although I’d still avoid leaving it somewhere water could collect. Overall, I’m very happy with this charger and would happily recommend it over competing products. 5 stars.

Absolutely quality bit of kit, my project work van had been sitting for months with a dead battery and after having this on the battery is as good as new and not needed to worry about battery life as this is now plugged in permanentl, I now have it on maintenance mode and have not had to worry about it since, its incredibly easy to use and comes with 2 different types of connector leads, I have it hard wired into my battery and it has some very nice clips if you wish to disconnect at any point. The price is extremely reasonable as depending on the type of battery you have they can become very expensive and this charger will charge them all.

Superb piece of kit can be used on my specific type of car battery. Goes through the specific cycles to condition the battery.

Great charger

The instructions provided with this product are completely inadequate. Support is equally confusing. A shame, as I have another CTEC charger, bought four years ago, which came with clear and comprehensive instructions. Is this progress?
