A Shredding Beast
When it comes to outdoor tools, quality can be everything. The Silky Professional BIGBOY 2000 Folding Saw was on the pricier side, but I found out that it's worth every penny. Here's why: Pros: Incredible Performance: This saw is a beast when it comes to cutting. It literally shreds through wood, making tasks quicker and more efficient. Build Quality: Made by a renowned brand, the quality of this saw is palpable. It feels sturdy, well-balanced, and is designed for heavy use. 360mm XL Blade: The blade size is perfect for more demanding tasks, and the extra-large size makes it versatile for various applications. Ease of Use: Despite its power, it's surprisingly easy to use. It cuts smoothly and doesn't require a lot of effort, which is perfect for longer projects. Portable and Foldable: Its folding design makes it convenient for storage and transport. Take it camping or use it in the garden; it's ready to go wherever you need it. Cons: Price Might Deter Some: Its higher price tag might make some hesitate, but trust me, it's a worthwhile investment. Conclusion: I almost passed on the Silky Professional BIGBOY 2000 Folding Saw due to its price, but I'm so glad I took the plunge. This saw is a powerhouse, efficient, and built to last. It's become an indispensable tool for me, and I can't recommend it highly enough. If you're looking for a folding saw that will not only meet but exceed your expectations, this is the one. Don't let the price deter you; it's worth every cent!

A must-have tool for trail clearing through the woods.
I’m fortunate in that I’m in the process of clearing some single track MTB trails in the woods on our farm. I have a pretty good assortment of tools for the purpose, which I carry to the trailhead in a four wheeler. It’s a long term project, mostly starting with existing game trails and even logging roads and turning them into trails for walking and riding our mountain bikes. I’ve been working on it intermittently for a couple of years. However, for those times when I’m clearing or maintaining trail farther from the trail head, I wanted something lightweight enough to easily carry and that would still be effective. The Big Boy, combined with a set of ARS pruning shears (also reviewed) which I carry in my pocket, gives me the means to perform most clearing duties easily. Instead of completely clearing a trail as I go, I first find a natural line and make at least several passes along it to make sure the line is where I want it, and prune and saw a bit more with each pass. The result is a gradually growing network of singletrack through the woods that is a pleasure to use. Using these lightweight tools also means I can combine taking a walk with doing trail work, instead of slogging along with heavier tools. Of course there are times when one needs those heavier tools, but not as often as I once thought. The Big Boy saw is perfectly suited for cutting branches, saplings, and smaller downed trees that I would normally use a bow saw or even a chain saw to cut. The curve seems just right, the handle fits my hand well, and the blade is wicked sharp. When folded it is easy to carry in the hand or in a day pack. It’s easier to carry than a bow saw, and certainly easier than a chain saw. I really like that the saw cuts on the pull stroke. I also have a few pull saws for carpentry work, and once I learned how to use them properly, have come to prefer them over the normal cross cut and rip saws that I also own. The handle is large enough to be used with two hands, but I find that such occasions are rare; mostly I use one hand, and let the saw do the work. When I first saw the price I was skeptical that this saw would be worth it; but it is. I find that Japanese steel products generally are more expensive but superior to many others. If you have a need for a portable pruning saw that you will use more than once in awhile, I expect you’ll happy with this one. Highly recommended.

unbelievable
I take this saw regularly into the backcountry woods in the northeastern United States on camping and backpacking trips. It cuts through wood so fast and effortlessly that getting firewood is no longer an ordeal for me. I do primarily winter camping, so fires this time of year need to be larger to keep you warm and dry; hence, you need a tool that can provide you enough wood to achieve that. Since I use a "man portable system" into the woods (carrying everything on my back) I wanted to maximize efficiency and capability with less weight. I had been using the gransfors bruks scandinavian forest axe, a bahco laplander, and Fallkniven F1 as my wood gathering and fire preparation tools for the last several years with much success. However, to get to those larger logs I was having to work too hard for too long to make my trips enjoyable, and lets face it, I go out into the woods to enjoy myself. I purchased this saw hoping that it would grant me easier and faster access to the wood that I wanted. So about four winter trips into the forest ago I traded out the bahco for the silky. My loadout otherwise remained the same. I found myself not using the axe at all except for splitting the wood I sawed through, and I was able to saw through big logs very fast with much less energy spent than the axe would have required. The next trip out, three trips ago, I brought the silky bigboy 2000, my Fallkniven Thor, and my Fallkniven F1 and I have, and will never, turn back. I am cutting down dead trees and sectioning them out with speed and ease with this saw and am batoning the pieces with my Thor; which completely takes the place of the axe. my new system is lighter and easier to carry. When I arrive to wherever I decide to camp in the woods I attach a carabiner to some paracord through the lanyard hole on the saw and attach it to my side belt loop and it carries that way perfectly. I attach my Fallkniven Thor to my belt, and my F1 wears around my neck. Now I can set up camp and go out into the woods scouting for wood or just explore with all my tools handy and my hands are left free to do what I want. The axe was always a little more cumbersome to lug around, and once you cut down a tree and need to carry it back to camp, what do you do with your axe? I love axes but this saw makes cutting wood a breeze.

The ultimate folding saw for serious work
I'm a four tool kind of guy. For any extended period in the woods, I like to have my axe, saw, knife and utility blade. Depending on the situation, I'll use different sizes of each. After a few years and far too many purchases, I've settled on my final tools (for now). In the case of ultralight, short-stay and extended outings, the Silky Saws cover all my saw needs. The Pocketboy 170 with medium teeth, is my go-to, ultralight, toss in the bag folding saw. My Gomboy 240 with large teeth is the best basic bushcraft saw, bar none. It is lightning fast, durable, easy to replace the blades as needed, and just gets the job done. I have the Corona and the Bahco laplander, and the Gomboy outperforms both by a mile. (The Corona is just a little faster than the Bahco). So I had to give the BigBoy 2000 a try. What can I say? It's like having a chainsaw on hand. It cuts through 4 inch timber like butter, and can handle very large logs you wouldn't even attempt with any other folding saw. It's big. Really big. 14 inches may not sound huge, but compared to the others, it's shocking. But if you carry a Small Forest Axe into the woods, then it doesn't seem like such a big deal. It fits inside almost all my packs. I haven't sprung for the sheath, and it doesn't come with one, but so far it hasn't been a big deal. It's not like you're going to miss this guy, if you put it on the ground. Bright yellow and over two feet long open, it's kind of obvious. The only thing that ever gives me any trouble is the blade feels kind of loose sometimes, and tends to bend too easily if I hit a knot or I'm not being too careful. I mostly credit that to user error. The GomBoy 240 is still my go-to bushcraft saw for short outings. But if I'm going to be in the woods for several days, or plan on doing some serious woodcraft, the BigBoy is as good as it gets.

Love it!
Love this saw. I climb with it and deploy it with little to no effort. Cuts like butter

Works great for spreading butter on toast.
Delivered today (5-16-18) and as soon as I got home I opened it up and went straight to work with it. The fit and finish are awesome, definitely not your local hardware store/Wal-Mart quality saw. This thing is big, and sharp as hell compared to any folding saw I've ever used previously. I jumped on my 4 wheeler and headed out to my back trails. This past winter was pretty rough and there were a lot of new blow downs, broken limbs, and dead branches blocking the trails. I snapped this thing open and immediately noticed how fast this thing rips through wood with very little effort. First limb I cut was roughly 3" thick and I was through it on the 8th pull. (As it should be noted it only cuts on the pull stroke.) I have no doubt that I could easily cut through a moderate sized tree if I had to. The blade is plenty long enough and gives a nice amount of reach with the soft rubber handle to get to higher limbs. I put it through a good hour of use and it just keeps going and asks for more. This is definitely going to be a permanent addition to my ATV box, and I will be getting at least one more for yard work. Absolutely worth the price, no questions asked.

Good product
For reference, I've always used the pole saw or standard band type saw for cutting trees/wood around the house. When out hunting I have used a number of smaller hand saws. After not being happy with most of them I settled, and was very satisfied, on the Wyoming saw (using it probably for the last 10 years now). But the Wyoming saw isn't quick to put together. This Silky caught my eye because it's pretty simple and quick to use. It cuts soft wood as good as any. It's nice that it folds up and protected, but that also means the handle is as long as the blade. I don't need a handle that long. So it seems a little inefficient to have such a long handle. Rather have a longer blade so I can take longer strokes with the saw. The grip is very good. Nice positive contact with the hand. The angle of the grip and handle relative to the blade is good, but I kind of feel there might better angles be able to apply more pressure if needed....but it does just fine. (That's probably an overly picky comment) Having a little arch to the blade makes a noticeable difference in how fast it cuts. I also like that it has an orange handle. More than once I've dropped my saw while up in a tree and got frustrated as it seemed to disappear in the fall leaves below. I always find it, but the orange handle should make it faster to find. I like that you can replace the blade if it ever gets dull. This will be nice to throw into the backpack when hunting this fall.

My Chainsaw of Choice
A legendary saw for any outdoor use. I've used this when hiking, clearing trails as well as some camp use to cut some heavy duty large logs to make either seats or as firewood. Now this model does not have a locking nob to keep it from opening once closed and there is a small gap where it can cut you or have stuff get caught so please be careful when packing this. The blades are a bit more thin than most folding saws and can get bent or broken off when using this. Note: This is a pull type saw where you only need to use energy to pull to make a cut and not push. This thing will cut effortlessly when you just allow it to cut on the pull stroke. Do NOT use this thing so rapidly like many people do just let the saw do the work. All in all this saw was a great purchase for me and a nice fit for my outdoor backpack. I would probably suggest the smaller end models for hiking or camping as this can take a bit of room from the pack and be a bit large to carry around but if you don't mind those factors go for this, cuts huge logs like it's literally butter no joke.

Exceptional Saw, but Needs a Case Solution
I recently purchased the Silky Professional Series BIGBOY 2000 Folding Landscaping Hand Saw with Extra Large Teeth, and I am incredibly impressed with its cutting capabilities. The sharpness of the teeth and the efficiency with which it tackles branches and limbs are truly remarkable. This saw has significantly reduced the time and effort I spend on landscaping tasks, making it an invaluable tool for any outdoor enthusiast or professional landscaper. The extra-large teeth of the BIGBOY 2000 are a game-changer. They effortlessly cut through thick branches with precision, providing a clean and smooth finish. The folding feature is convenient for storage and transport, making it easy to carry around in my backpack or toolbox. The ergonomic handle ensures a comfortable grip, allowing for extended use without hand fatigue. However, the lack of a protective case is a notable drawback. Given the sharpness of the blade, having a case is not only essential for safety but also for prolonging the life of the saw. It's disappointing that finding a compatible case is challenging. The absence of a case makes it cumbersome to transport and store securely, and it's a missed opportunity for the manufacturer to provide a complete solution for their customers. Despite the absence of a case, the BIGBOY 2000's exceptional performance cannot be overlooked. It delivers on its promise of efficiency and durability, making it a worthwhile investment for anyone in need of a reliable landscaping hand saw. If the manufacturer could address the case issue, this product would easily earn a full 5-star rating. In summary, the Silky Professional Series BIGBOY 2000 Folding Landscaping Hand Saw is a top-notch tool for outdoor cutting tasks. Its sharpness, efficiency, and ergonomic design make it a standout choice. However, potential buyers should be aware of the lack of a protective case and consider their own solutions for safe storage and transport. If you don't mind the case issue, this saw is definitely worth the purchase for its excellent cutting performance.
