I installed them and they just hold the truck in one spot. I can’t open or close it. Do I need to unlock them or something?

They were tight to start. You have to lift the gate up and down a couple of times to get the hydraulics working.

does left and right both come in a single order?

Yes,set comes with 2 rods and they work for Left And right.

Is this for the left and right sides?

as I recall (it is getting to be a few months ago), the parts are identical for left and right sides. because they are cylindrical, the parts rotate to fit. Installation tip: take the retaining clips off the existing installed OEM parts you are replacing. But DO NOT remove the retaining clips from the replacement parts prior to installation. Good luck.

will this work on a 2012 right hand drive hyundai tuscon diesel?

Not sure But no reason engine configuration would affect lifts or other parts of chassis These replacement parts worked fine BTW Don’t assume you can compress these by hand you can’t But they made the rear hatch open w a real springiness
