When their mysterious leader is apparently murdered, Thornton assumes the dead man's identity to arrange one last, lucrative bumper-crop deal, but pulling off the scam proves to be a lot harder than they'd anticipated. While the three potheads seek refuge with an old colleague (Kelly Lynch) and routinely sample their goods (which explains the film's theatrical obscurity), Homegrown turns into a taut thriller fueled by equal parts comedy and paranoid tension--an update of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre with marijuana instead of gold! Featuring cameo roles for Jamie Lee Curtis, Ted Danson, and John Lithgow, this entertaining film fell victim to the misguided fear that it promotes drugs and illegal activity. A great movie that was never given the justice it deserved
I've owned the VHS of this since it came out & had a hard time getting a DVD until now. This movie is hidden treasure that deserves more credit than it was ever given

Great Comedy Movie!
It is a great movie. Slightly dark comedy. I stumbled onto it back in 2004, I believe, on HBO one night. Within 15 minutes I knew I had to own it. I couldn't believe all these big actors were in it and yet I had never heard of it. I made sure to check the date on it at the end of the film - 1998. I was wowed because that is farther back than I thought. In 1998, I was too young to appreciate such a movie. ****Ted Danson as the toy factory mafia guy is hilarious.**** It's a great movie, at least rent it. Actually it might be cheaper to buy it now, BUY IT.

I liked this dvd it’s different from what I’ve ever seen Jon Bon Jovi do as an actor he went out of his realm it was a stretch of a character for him. I bought this to add to my collection of JBJ things glad I did.

Very true to life in that business at that time.
I was there. This story is heavily fictionalized but similar situations like it did occur.

it falls a little short, but I love it
This is not a super high quality movie and it's not roll on the floor funny. It's good and the humor works. It's more of a misadventure - action with humorous aspects and scenes. Subjectively, I love it and watch it every now and then. Though when I first got it I watched a few times in one month.

Great movie - unlike any other film about marijuana
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Great cast, great plot, great screenplay. Very funny, but not in the way other movies about marijuana are. Most "pot movies" are slapstick, but Home Grown is a true drama, with tasteful comedy thrown in for fun. I wish more film makers would make movies about subjects like marijuana, skateboarding, and snowboarding without having them resemble Dumb and Dumber.
