Great, multifuction tool for cooking over a fire. Able to pick up lid off of dutch over, can also pick up dutch off by the handle, and functions as a trivet/stand to set the dutch oven or cast iron pan on to it doesn't burn the table. Works great, very useful!

I use these to lift the lid on my cast iron dutch oven. They are also good to set the lid on so the lid doesn't sit on the ground and get dirt in your food when you put the lid back on.

I still have this item and I use it for a lid opener still too short to open a cast iron when it extremely hot.You will have to be right on the money for use of cast iron riser when rotating the Dutch oven during the cooking process.

I took of one star from this product because it claims to that it can be used as a lid lifer. I can be used that way but with conditions.One, if you've got a large number of coals on the top of the oven you really should wear a protective glove . The short length of the stand when used as a lifter puts your hand very close to the coals.Two, the design allows you to hook the lid but it easy for the lid to rock on the hook. This can let ash fall into your food or for coals to roll off the lid.Three, if you are removing the lid (not just rotating it) then you need a good place to put the lid. In most cases the best place to put it is on the stand that you have in your hand. Awkward.So, in summary, as a stand this is a great item, it is sturdy and well made. As a lid lifter it will work but your are much better off getting a dedicated lid lifter. Check out YouTube for some great lifter design comparisons.

I have a set of cast iron cookware that I use for both campfire cooking and on my propane stove when camping. Although I had a good pot hook lid lifter, I had always had to improvise a way to set down the lid or the pot. I now have two of these - one for a hot lid and one for the pots themselves. Wish I had done it a lot sooner.Space is always a consideration when camping, and the fact that these fold up when not in use is helpful.As others have mentioned, although these are sold by Lodge, unlike the Lodge cast iron pans and lids, they are made in China rather than in Tennessee. We ordered another Lodge accessory not long ago only to discover that it was also made in China, but the pots and lids themselves, so far, have all been made in the USA.

I used this stand for cooking on my cast iron skillet while camping. It worked well. I was able to just put it down in a bed of hot coals and place my 12 inch skillet on top and get cooking. I was also able to place a small backpacking kettle on it without issue. It folds flat so its easy to store and transport, although it’s a bit too heavy to consider taking it backpacking.I did not try using it as a hook for lifting lids or whatnot because it was under the pan in question, and I don’t think it’s worth keeping two of these around.
