With a sturdy, lightweight zig-zag sole, the terry is a fresh twist on a classic Dr. Martens fisherman's sandal — with an extra-chunky platform height. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

fits well..I fit a 10.5 shoe but ordered the 11-11.5..it fits good
this is a great sandal...made of leather..I like the strap in the back..fits better for me rather than just open like the first one I purchase which I sent back...you might want to buy a little bigger size then you take..I like a lot of room in a sandal, so nothing rubs against you toes..this worksand they are really cool looking...the thick sole has grooves so you don't slip..like thatthese are expensive but tired of buying sandals for 30 to $40 which wear out quickly..give them a try, you can always send back..r

Larger Make, Perfect for Wide Fit
The shoe itself is amazing and sturdy. Exactly what’s expected from a Doc Marten shoe. I also have wide feet and was happy to see these, unlike other doc sandals, actually fit my feet well and I didn’t need to go up a size to accomodate. Although for a standard doc size this is larger than average. The only issue was the shoe itself looked as if someone had worn it already or at least tried it on.

I work in a garage all day with out a fatigue mat at my counter and I can wear them all day long with out my feet feeling horrible. I wear then with leggings and skinny jeans ...
Dr. Martens have always ran while sizes (been wearing them since I was 15 and I'm 33 now) so always go one up. Make sure you break these in before you wear them for a full day or you may get a blister on the back of your foot. I work in a garage all day with out a fatigue mat at my counter and I can wear them all day long with out my feet feeling horrible. I wear then with leggings and skinny jeans too. Love em.

They don't come in authentic packaging but they are nice
I wear a US 8 1/2 and went with an 8 and they fit good. They arrive in a bag with no box and the straps did get bent during shipping. I took 1 star off for lack of authentic packaging, tags and poor shipping. I took another star off because my feet do sometimes come out of the shoe as I walk due to the weight (no matter how tight I make them). Overall, I really do like them and would recommend. Sidenote: If you want to gift them, I'd recommend buying from the Dr. Martens website or in store due to lack of authentic packaging and tags.

Foot love
This is my second pair of Dr M sandals. The first pair was sooooo comfortable I had to have another in a different color. These do not disappoint. I love the cushion and support. Dr. M’s do run a little wider, but that works well for me, as my left ankle sometimes swells. I would definitely buy again.
