Lives of The Saints: For Everyday in the Year

Really was happy to see this book on my tablet! Easy to read and very enlightening. I added it to my daily prayers and praying that we should all have their devotion total our Lord and Savior. Thank you for putting it in your book selections.

This is the classic text, a must read for everyone to know the Saints that lived. Read just one saint of the day at night, just one page or so each. Your life will change dramatically.

Great beginning book; easy to read!!!

Good reference for those who are studying Hagiology. And I highly recommend this to everyone, theologans and lay alike! Five stars!

Lots of good info in here. Grammar kinda weird and not edited well. Also makes you flip back and forth sometimes. Weirdly put together but does the job.

I wanted a companion to The Imitation of Christ even though I'm not Catholic. It's supposed to be the original. It's uplifting even though I find some of it jarring.

Make sure you have your children read this book! It is so important to know who our elder brothers and sisters are who have fought the fight and won!

Most saint books today leave out the extraordinary (most especially any talk of miracles), and paint a rather bland, ordinary life of a saint. That is, not to make a saint look too saintly. But not this book. This book is rumored to have been Fr. Alban Butler's personal favorite -- and is a version not gotten hold of by modern skeptical editors who strike any reference to the supernatural. Yes, the biographies are short, but that's so the book can be read in a few easy minutes each day. But perhaps the greatest strength of the book are the short meditations which are actually able to inspire those to read them to imitate the virtues of a saintly life. I have read this book every day for ten years (though based on the old Catholic calendar), and would recommend it again and again.

Edifying

Excellent prayerful reflections and short stories on the saint of the day. Based on the 1955 Calendar (deo gratias), with a few newer saints added in (circa 1994). Probably the best, earliest edition that you can buy today without modernist issues. The stories are inspiring and maintain some of the mystical elements of the stories to think about. God is Good. He has given us many examples of virtue and sanctity to emulate. All Saints in Heaven, pray for us!

Very good book and great if you want to grow your reading vocabulary. This must be a fairly old translation as I need to consult a dictionary to learn some very little used words. Somewhat dry. I read it for about 15 days but like so many resolutions I have lapsed and need to get back to reading it daily. The readings are exactly the right length to read with a cup of tea in the evening. As I am a new convert from Protestantism I don't have many books on the Saints. The modern one I have seemed to be too interested in slighting the reality of the stories (demythologising). This book has none of that and is great for traditional Catholics.

The book was crushed from one side, which is not expected from such an expensive book at all. Not happy with the product delivery system here. Whereas, the book is a great read.

It totally met my expectations. It is so nice to read about the saint of the day and learn more about there prayer life. It only takes a few minutes and sets your mind towards God for the day. Agnes
