Worked perfectly! As others have mentioned, the screws won’t self tap into every can light so rather than deal with this, I simply pre drilled holes in mine. I was pleasantly surprised that everything else went as smoothly as it did. Wiring was straightforward, all parts fit and were of good quality. Installing my hanging light afterward was easy peasy. There were zero problems. Highly recommended.

I was very hesitant about buying these because I had gotten an estimate from an electrician to do the exact same thing (he even sent a picture of these with the estimate) for almost $1200 for 4 lights so I thought there was no way it could be that easy. It absolutely was. As other reviews have mentioned, the self tapping screws want to dance around when you try to get them started but I just took a small nail and made a hole where the screws were going and then no problem. I have very little experience with anything construction related and it only took me about 30 minutes per light and that's including installing the new fixture in addition to the conversion kit. The medallion is a very shiny white plastic but unless you have large flush mounted lights, you have to use it to cover the hole left by the can light. I spray painted mine black to match the fixture and they look great. I'm still amazed that this was able to be a DIY project.

Easy to install and looks great with the new lights I installed in my hallway. Had to mess with the metal plate and fixture slightly as the surround wasn’t flush against the ceiling at first. Overall happy with the two I installed and they are a great price. I will be painting the ceiling medallion as it says paintable, so I will circle back and write how that pans out.

This wasn't too hard to install, it's a mostly straightforward process. The so-called self-piercing screws weren't sufficient on their own - driving them through the can with a hammer was the only way I could get the holes started. (A metal drill bit probably would have been a better choice if I had one). The big selling point for this, for me, was that it's supported on a slanted ceiling; we have cathedral ceilings and no access to the space between them and the roof. I couldn't find any specific documentation on how to mount these on an angle, but there's one thing I think makes a difference: I mounted the cross-bar vertically | originally thinking that would provide better support. In assembling the rest of the kit, I realized it would have been better horizontally – I don't have a lot of faith in the install of the lighting cans, so my light is hanging by the chain off a hook, so I cannot speak to the success of this kit carrying weight. Overall a good kit, I would buy again.

This can light converter works and is far less expensive than others I've seen on Amazon. It makes converting a can light to a pendant or chandelier easy. A couple notes on installation - you have to drill 2 self tapping screws into the existing can light outer wall to secure the new bracket that will hold the new light fixture. It's very sturdy once it's done but screwing it into the metal is challenging. I put the bracket where I wanted it and used a Sharpie to mark where I wanted the first screw to go. I then took a large nail and used it as a starter punch by hammering a dent into the mark. The dent made it so the screw didn't "walk" when I was trying to get it started. Even with that, I had to push hard on the drill and keep it going for about 20 seconds or so until the screw bit enough to go through the can. I did the same thing for the 2nd screw but didn't have to make a mark since I just put the nail in the middle of the screw hole on the opposite side of the bracket. You might have better luck with an actual metal punch. On sizing and centering the bracket, I did that before I drilled, but I assume you could do it after. The ceiling medallion/cover is fine but you might want to spray paint it since it's a shiny plastic white. I bought 2 aged bronze pendant lights with glass shades and used a couple of light coats of Rustoleum Universal to paint the top and bottom parts of the light fixture matte black. I used the same paint for the medallion and it all matches. If you want the medallion white to match your ceiling, depending on the color of your ceiling you still might consider spray painting it a matte or hammered white to cut down on the shiny white plastic look. The medallion is plenty wide enough to cover a 6 inch can light opening. Yes, I know the top of the fixture is not entirely centered in the medallion. I'll fix it, I swear. And ignore the popcorn ceiling, which remains the bane of my existence.

I bought this so we could hang a lightweight chandelier over my hallway steps. I had my buddy (an electrician) come and help because I have neck issues and can't do work over my head anymore. This was very easy to install and he was very impressed with the sturdiness and how much weight this could hold. It states up to 50lbs and I will bet it could do that without issue. The fit and finish of each part is first rate. Once installed it looks GREAT.

This product works exactly as advertised. It converts a recessed light so that you can install another light fixture, and it does not require that you remove the metal can from your ceiling. This is convenient because these cans can be obnoxious to remove, and the hole left in your ceiling is probably bigger than you want for your new fixture anyway. My large dining room stupidly had ONE recessed light for the entire room. I used this product to install a chandelier. As the picture shows, an adapter plugs into the light bulb socket and gives you your standard hot/neutral wires to install the new fixture with. A metal bracket gets screwed into the sides of your recessed light can; this provides the support for hanging heavier fixtures, but as you can imagine it is not nearly as strong as a metal box mounted to a ceiling joist. Another bracket attaches to this first bracket; this second bracket is what you install your new light fixture to. I purchased and installed this several months ago. I remember the instructions being somewhat poor, perhaps even inaccurate in some parts, however I was able to figure it out without too much trouble. There are other products like this on the market, but not all of them are designed to support the same amount of weight. This Westinghouse Recessed Light Converter is rated to hold up to 50lbs. I used it to hang a fairly heavy chandelier (perhaps 30-40lbs) and it has been hanging beautifully for several months now. This product is not advertised as being able to support a ceiling fan. Other products I have seen at the store say they can be used to install a ceiling fan, but I would be very hesitant to install heavy moving object with this kind of design.

- Drill holes in the side of the can light requires pre-drilling with metal bits. The screws are not self-tapping and the instructions pretend they are. - The holes and screws are positioned such they run into each other. So you need to back out the screws holding the grounding wires if you want to mount a light fixture. - The bracket isn't adjustable to sit flush with the ceiling, so the light fixture may either not install at all because the bracket is too recessed or the light fixture may have a big gap with the ceiling. For the next installations I am using a different conversion kit.

I had three 4" Halo potlights with GU10 lights. Electrician estimate to convert the electrical came in at $1000. I bought three of these converters and they worked really well. The extendable bracket was a bit finicky to screw in as my canisters were thicker but after that it was easy peasy. Great product. What's even more interesting is when I went to two different electrical supply shops to inquire about getting the extendable bracket on its own (I didn't need or liked the canopy it came with) they said they had never heard of this product. Make sure you know the make and model of your pot and check it with the converter specs. Saves alot of time and most importantly, money!

I wanted to change some pot lights over my kitchen island to pendant lights. I assumed it would be easy but apparently it’s a big job for electricians to take out the pot light to put in a regular light. Then I found this conversion kit! We installed them semi easily (for non electricians) and now I have my pendant lights! Note we didn’t need to use the ceiling plate as our pot lights were small enough to be covered by the new pendant plates.

Screws don’t pierce the metal can so installation is impossible with just this kit. Updated Review: Once I got metal drill bits I was able to install this system. Make sure you don’t install the support bar too deep because otherwise you can’t use it to support the metal plate that you need to twist on. If you are hanging just a paper lamp there are other conversion kits that don’t require drilling at all. However if you do have a drill and metal bits, this conversion kit is the cheapest and will work.

has lots of flexibility & was able to replace a recessed pot light with a pendant light, as advertised. very pleased with result.

It's a great quality thing to turn my pot lights into a light fixture. I've bought two, half a decade apart. Both of them were super easy to install. If I ever need to turn another into a different light I'd get another.
